Asking all UT students/alum/fans..... Year after year after year of superb world-class talent and recruiting. Year after year after year of more disappointment. Is there a coach you would like to see that could take UT to the next level, or do you give Mack Brown a few more years of 9-2 seasons???
I don't think so. Deloss Dodds seems to be entralled with this guy. He schmoozes well with us alumni, he recruits great talent, and he has an extremely engaging personality. I think he'll be around for quite a few more years. Having said that, I'd love to see Saban or Neuheisel around these parts.
No. But, I can't live with just 9 win seasons though. He needs to evaluate his coaches, imo. Someone did post at Hornfans that Tom Hicks looked mighty pissed when he left the Cotton Bowl though. I don't like Saban or Neiuhiesel at UT. I'd like Franchione or Belotti. Or, if even possible, Kirk Farentz.
No. We won't find a better coach, Mack just needs to demote/fire Davis and maybe look into a new DC-unsure on that.
I don't see that happening. Maybe the best thing for UT is to change the coordinators. Maybe is it the quarterback. Mock or VY could be the answer. If UT doesn't win a national championship in the next four years, I bet Mack will be gone. The only optimism I see is that it took Bobby Bowden a while to win his first national title. And Bobby lost a lot of big games in the beginning part of his coaching career at FSU, but then he turned it around. Hopefully Mack can do the same thing.
It wasn't the QB's fault against Tech. This one falls on the defense's shoulders. Tech never punted on Saturday.
Tech never punted on Saturday. Tech actually punted 3 times yesterday, and did it to perfection. Greathouse is a phenomenal punter that has been a huge part of their success all season long. His ability to nail punts within the 10 yard line is ridiculous. Perhaps instead of recruiting 8 defensive lineman, we should consider going for just 6 of them and a kicker and punter.
so have i. how often do we really stop a good offense. KSU this year is all i can think of. otherwise, oregon made us look bad, washington made us look bad, OU this year and 3 years ago, neb ran all over us, tech killed us (we stopped them last year i guess but they are better this year), colorado ran all over us in the big xii title game (though we stopped them earlier in the year). we never seem to put the clamps on. luckily for reese, two of our main opponents (ou and a&m) had horrible offense the last few years so he hasn't faced a lot of great O's. his defense works very well against inferior opponets b/c they simply can't string drives together against our athletes and bend but don't break style D. however, get a real offense on the field and it doesn't look so good. i wish we would either blitz or find some way to get pressure on the QB. and what the hell was up with playing off the tech WR's yesterday?? somebody help me here. all they do is short passes and we're backing off? i loved when they scored 28. 3rd and goal at the 4 and we have two guys 4 yards deep in the endzone. bam, welker right at the goal line. did we think they were gonna beat us deep in the massive ten yard endzone. it was mind boggling. as was mentioned, why no bump and run, it couldn't have done worse than what happened. reese and davis have to be the two most conservative coordinators in the country (which could mean it's all mack's philosophy anyway) and i want it to change. dominate some people for once. don't just do conservative crap you can get away with b/c your opponent is so crappy. it doesn't work against good teams on either side of the ball.
True they punted. The most telling stat is not one many realize. Texas had 5 snaps in the 4th quarter. That is not good.
I wish sMack's job was on the line. UT needs a football coach that realizes winning is more important than recruiting. Besides, with all the talent they now have, if they still don't win a National Championship, their recruting will bottom out no matter who is the coach. Get rid of da bum.
Neuheisel is a lot like Mack. A great recruiter and saleman whose teams often make boneheaded plays and every year consistently manage to lose a game or two they have no business losing to based on the talent difference. --No thanks. Now Belotti, that dude has got very good talent considering he is in Oregon and his teams have been even better than you would expect with his collection of talent. I think him and Stoops are the best in the business personally.
Once the Aggies get a new coach; the Aggies, Red Raiders, and Sooners will all have ammo against the Longhorns. No offense, but it will be humiliating to see Leach reach the BCS and win a conference title before Brown. Stoops and Slocum have already been there and done that. Unfortunately Brown is sleeping with the power base and I don't mean his wife Dodds and the big donors control athletics. The fans can b**** and moan about the coaching staff, but as long as the power base approves, Brown doesn't have to do anything. The only way to get to power base is not buy season tickets or merchandise. But demand is so great, that if some people boycott, ticket brokers or other fans will move right in.
But unlike Mack, he won't have to rely on an OC to design an offense. The guy knows offense. ala John Mackovic.
I'd like to see Mike Stoops coach the Horns. You think the Red River Rivalry is big now? Imagine it with the Stoops brothers coaching against each other.
