Great news, just too bad it's about 5 years too late.

If that's true and the Iraqi government is on board, then great news.

Their parliament refused to allow immunity for additional troops remaining this week, that's the sticking point.

I hope we're just not shifting everything over to Afghanistan, which seemed to be the trend for the last 3 years.

Yup. Can't let that happen. We're above the law.

Great news for the troops and time for Iraq to stand on it's own two feet, too bad we can't tax their oil to pay for their liberation.

    ;)

Yeah, reason seems trivial in the grand scheme of things, and not exactly the reason I'd like... "Mission Accomplished?," but at this point, use whatever excuse you have to in order to get them home. Still seems a petty way to conclude.

Good for them. How long do we expect American troops to be exempt from the law? One of the big goals was to develop a government with a fair legal system. Well at some point that legal system has to apply to us as well.

I wonder how many mercenaries we will have there once this takes place. It's long over due that we are bringing our troops home, but if all we do is replace them with mercenaries then I would think it would still cost us a pretty penny.

If the men who die for it are professional warriors rather than future American leaders, who gives a f**k how pretty the penny is.

Well, I mean, I do. The cost of the wars is a concern, and ending those costs offers real solutions to current domestic shortcomings. I don't want to waste money, but I would way rather have Blackwater running that country for the next twenty years than to have one more soldier not make it to their long awaited flight home.

I'd also be hard-pressed to believe that such mercenary occupation would be more fiscally costly than our current extent of occupation and reconstruction. It's certainly cheaper in human capital. This I know.
