Obviously the quality of athletes isn't the same and the spacing's not quite as good, but honestly, if you really get into college basketball it's just as fun to watch as the NBA. Because there are fewer games and more days of rest (and practice) in between, the players actually defend and run offenses. And at the end of the day, it's still basketball. It'll be a shame if the whole season is lost, but whatever.
I love college basketball, at least those guys play hard all game long, in the NBA, most coast until the 4th quarter. DD
this is absolutely, postively the worst thing about the NBA. Robert Horry's career is Exhibit "A." It is intensely frustrating to pay the money NBA teams ask you to pay for season tickets, only to watch players half ass it. It happens in other sports too...it's just far more noticeable in the NBA. I literally watched Horry walk up and down the court while splitting season tickets with my Dad at a time where I really couldn't afford to do that. That bugged the crap out of me. Either shorten the season or reduce the number of teams making the playoffs. There is no premium on playoff spots. More teams make the playoffs than don't. That devalues the regular season to the players and to everyone in the building.
Max, it is the guaranteed contracts that cause this....if the winning team got more money I am sure they would be playing harder. Maybe have less money guaranteed, and more paid to teams winning. DD
Not a good idea. It creates a new set of problems. No stars would ever want to play for a bad team and it further encourages current stars to band together and form more "superfriends" team. The parity would be even more extreme than it was and the league might as well reduce it's numbers to 4-5 teams.
Main problem is guaranteed contracts.... unlike the NFL where you dont produce - u get cut, and u walk with only your signing bonus. I'm all for changing this in the NBA so these crybaby players will step up and earn what theyre gettin paid! The owners need to bring in scrubs, like the NFL did years back - THAT would get this resolved! Otherwise, I agree... screw em all!
Realizing its not a popular view - I support the owners.... Let them run their franchises how they wish! Player doesnt like it - go play in Europe... You and I cant dictate how the companys we work for are run - why should NBA players? Owners invested vast amounts of moneys decades ago to create the NBA.... why should some 20 year old kid who has no vested interest beyond his career be allowed to dictate actions that may be in the best longterm interest of the league? Antoine Carr didnt like we he got drafted - he went and played overseas for a few years.... If the owners dont act in the best interest of the league, they lose players overseas and their revenues go down....
Players union has been disolved.... lift the lockout and open for business under whatever guidelines you wish.... honor existing contracts, but adjust going forward....
That depends upon the structure of the CBA, if you have an equitable situation like the NFL and franchise tags etc, you can keep your stars. DD
Keeping your stars is one thing, getting stars in the first place is another. I'm all for franchise tagging, and 4 quarters of effort from the players. But there is no conceivable way that a bonus for winning team would work without fundamentally separating the NBA into two halves. One half would be winning teams already that could either keep or draw stars to the team, the other half would be losing teams that have to rely on the lottery to build a solid team, which would not be good for fans.
I wish the NBA would have enough teams where there can be 2nd division teams so the bottom 2-4 (2 from each conference?) teams get relegated and the top 2-4 2nd division teams get promoted. Like in most European soccer. /nothing to do with thread
