You know. . .this phrase has become the TEXANS unofficial Motto for the last two years Every loss usually starts with . . THEY SHOULD HAVE DONE THIS IN THE END . . . and ends up with SHOULDN'T HAVE COME DOWN TO THAT . . Rocket River
I don't recall the Oilers ever being so consistently good at finding creative ways to be bad. For many years the Oilers were just awful. Remember the Coach Peterson era. They didn't tear you heart out as much as everyone in the world knew they were going to lose and big. During the LoveYaBlue era, they kept getting to the edge of playoff success but couldn't overcome one of the best Steeler teams ever. Remember Bradshaw; I swear he had a mechanical arm. The Buffalo collapse is more like the Texans, but not really, because if they win that game, they go to the Super Bowl. The Texans are more like in toilet bowl territory. And if they lose Sunday, stand by for a huge flush.
Before I got to your next sentence, I thought of the Glanville/Pardee era Oilers and laughed. Having read on, I understand where you're coming from, but generally I'd say Houston NFL is historically among the most creative losers the NFL/AFL has ever seen.
Yeah, there was "stagger lee" but there weren't many "nail biters" during those eras. I just have a general recollection that the Oilers were largely untalented and BAD we a few exceptions, the early years and the Earl and Moon eras. It has been so painful, my memories are perhaps grossly distorted.
That was actually a Wild Card game. Don't think I ever saw the team advance to the Conference Championship in my time. Good 'ol Oilers.
How important is this game? If the Texans win . . . I predict 1. Playoffs 2. A Playoff Victory 3. Perhaps a superbowl [hard because it will be BeliCheat Vs Kubiak in the conference championships. . . .shiver] Rocket River
Nope. It was a wild card game, January 3, 1993. They beat Pittsburgh the next Saturday, then they clobbered Miami in the Conference finals on the 17th before losing to Dallas (of course) in the big game on the 31st.
Post 1966, the Oilers appeared in three AFC championship games, none of them in the Glanville/Pardee era.
They may have, but I was too young for them. This Texans team needs to do something, though. Houston is a #1 Football town. To live with this is akin to Boston not having a baseball championship.
It was a wild card game. The knock on Warren Moon and his HOF credentials were that he never even made it to the conference finals. edit. Upon further review, it was indeed a Wild Card game. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/oti/1992.htm
