If all you needed was a guy who could hand it off and make plays here and there and could run and is a WINNER.

You blew it by passing up on Vince Young for a lot cheaper.

This isn't 2 1st rounders yet. Only if Palmer wins us a playoff game.

And don't misunderstand what I mean by "hand off and make a few plays". That is assuming the running game is working and the defense isn't getting **** on. If those things hold true, Palmer's job is easy.
If we get into a dogfight, he's got the skills to sling it.

Looking at his stats last year, he threw 20 picks... but had to put the ball up a whopping 586 times and still managed a 61% completion rate, and that was with 2 has-beens at WR (Ocho and TO).

You don't put up near 600 attempts in a season without some durability.

If you were the bengals, assuming that they get the second first rounder, do think it is possible for a team to actually make a deal for luck.

Would the luck lottery winner bit on a deal that was say, Andy Dalton, 2012 1st (raiders), 2013 1st (theirs), 2013 (raiders)

That's 3 first rounders for luck, and a decent qb in Andy Dalton.

LOL, do you even believe HALF the crap you type sometimes??? GUARANTEED themselves a Super Bowl in the next 5 years?? Because of what exactly?? The addition of one (possibly 2) mid-to-late first round picks?? It's a good deal for them, but not world changing. I think both teams got what they needed out of this.....the Raiders have just officially entered "WIN NOW" mode, and they are all-in at this point. Palmer either works wonderfully for them, and they take down the Chargers for that division and make some noise in the playoffs, or he gets injured (or never shakes off the funk he was in at the end of his Cincy era) and they falter and go 8-8. Either that, it's a good place to be for a fan base that hasn't had much to root for in the last 20 years. The Bengals get to add some depth to a pretty bare team, and they can at least give those fans something to in addition to the development of Dalton and Green. To me, this was a good deal that benefited both sides.

They were a big question mark pass protecting wise coming in, but they've been a welcome surprise.

Only allowed 5 sacks all year (3 of those to Houston).

Campbell got injured on a scramble.

BTW - Here is what "washed-up" Carson Palmer did in his last NFL home game, http://espn.go.com/nfl/boxscore?gameId=301226004

Agreed - franchises sometimes get so obsessed with picks that they end up in perpetual rebuilding mode. Sometimes, you have to make the big move for the proven player - if Palmer pans out, he's a potential franchise QB for another 5-8 years for a team that has had a revolving door at QB for a while now.

This is a huge gamble, but there was virtually no QB market with Garrard injured and the Raiders are desperate to be relevant. If I'm running that team, I probably don't make this move because we're not close to winning a Super Bowl anyway ... they basically sold the farm in hopes of a playoff birth.

Very ballsy but they've now squandered a 1st, likely 2nd, and a 3rd rounder on Palmer and Terrell Pryor. IMO Palmer is average at best at this point in his career and the only way they win it all with him is if they develop a world-beater defense.

Against the NFL's #1 overall & passing defense, no less, playing for their playoff lives... What a washed up scrub.

Having seen almost every Bengals game over the past 3-4 years, I feel confident in saying that Carson Palmer is in no way a good quarterback. Sure, he's not Matt Moore terrible and is probably an upgrade over Kyle Boller, but Oakland giving up a 1st and a conditional 1st/2nd...wow.

He's regressed every year since he got his leg blown up in the playoffs.

Unfortunately, to Mike Brown, this probably provides another 10 years of self-validation. (lolz as if he needed it)

TO was good last year, and it isn't like Oakland's receivers are necessarily good.

How long for Carson to get up to speed?

I watched plenty of Bengals games over the past few years where Carson Palmer had nobody to throw to because they blitzed the **** out of him and none of his washed up receivers could get an separation.

He'll be ready to start against Denver in 2 weeks, but I wouldn't bet against him not playing vs KC this week.

Charger fans better **** their pants after what he did to y'all last season.

Palmer tore your asses up and we swept you.

Time to beat some Charger ass again and take the division.

I can't see Oakland winning less than 10 games given their schedule, and if they beat SD even once, that should be enough to take the division.

No training camp, new team, new system, and new receivers. Are the Raiders expecting Palmer to just walk in without having taken snap in almost a year, and right the ship?

Vince Young would have been the right move here. Could have been had for a mid-round pick. McFadden would've really benefited from sharing the backfield with VY, much like CJ2K did.
