Yup - that's what Kubiak says. "Our two returners are starters that have played a ton of football," Kubiak said. "We need to make sure we're being fair to those guys from a freshness standpoint, so we're bringing Trindon back to hopefully give us a little bit in the return game and hopefully play a few special teams for us." I'm guessing Manning will go back to being the guy late in the season, as well as in any "big" moments between now and then. In other words, they'll pick his spots.
With the way we're losing starters and lack of depth at S, I don't mind making a change at KR. Even though he has yet to show it in the NFL, Holliday can be a real threat and I would really like to see what he can do.
I get the move, but for the most part our return game looked awful in the preseason when they were holding Manning out of the role. Holliday only played in the last preseason game and did OK. I hope it carries over into real games.
First Mason, and now this...The writing is on the wall for Jacoby. He's clearly losing value in the minds of the coaches.
That's what I'm thinking, too. Kubiak more or less threw him under the bus Monday (very rare for Kubes to do) and since then, they've traded for Derrick Mason and signed a (supposed) punt returner. I wonder if JJ was a pill in the postgame locker room and they're acting swiftly to rid themselves of a problem child? I'll be surprised if he's on the team plane to Baltimore.
Honestly, even though it would be wasted money, it would be so refreshing to see Kubiak completely roast a guy like that and kick his ass to the curb.
Why? Andre is still gonna be out. We've released Anderson. Bryant Johnson only suited up as an "emergency" receiver last week. Do you think we're going to go into the Ravens game with Mason, Walter, and a not completely healthy Bryant Johnson as our only receivers?
I agree, i'm for protecting him but I was just arguing the point that when you replace him, it probably won't be an upgrade because he is very good.
It'll be interesting to see the anti/down on-Schaub crowd's reaction if they do indeed release JJ - would be a huge implication, in terms of what happened Sunday (11 targets/1 incompletion). When people see balls sail or bounce - they always assume the QB chunked it. What I don't think a lot of people realize is that most QBs throw to *spaces* - not guys. It's up to the WR to run a precise route and be in that space. From what I saw Sunday, JJ ran lazy routes. You can't do that in the NFL.
Isn't it a known rule as a WR that if your QB rolls to his left, then you as a receiver have to roll right so he doesn't have to throw across his body? I mean that's so basic. I could understand if he was a rookie or something but Jacoby is in his 4th year now? Ship him out plz.
I think he's shown quite the opposite. He is very quick but not fast by any means. Even if he breaks away, there are plenty of guys that can catch up with him. People confuse quickness with speed too much, and what you really need from a kick returner is speed and some vision.
Ha, you think that would change anyone's mind? There are still people who think Sage Rosenfels is better and Kubiak is just Schaub's protector.
Has AJ been ruled out officially? They've moved swiftly to find replacements for JJ; in Holliday's case, he's not even an upgrade. The writing is on the wall, IMO.
Officially? I don't think so. But McClain had this blurb in this article. Take it for what it's worth. http://www.chron.com/sports/article/Texans-notes-No-timetable-for-Johnson-s-return-2212280.php Regardless of where he's actually at in his rehab, you can hardly expect Andre to play this weekend.
Can't remember where, but I think I read that he didn't. Also found this: http://www.rotoworld.com/content/pl...news.asp?sport=NFL&id=1575&line=216320&spln=1
I'd be surprised if he plays, yeah - but I don't think Kubiak will reveal anything until he has to. So, if AJ is out, JJ will be in Baltimore, albeit in a reduced role, IMO. I think his time here is almost up.
