I don't really have any stats that I can post here. But overall, I get the impression that the rookie class of 2000 has not done well for itself up to this point. Give some feedback, posters. Do you think that the rookies haven't done much up to this point? Does anyone have any stats that might prove or disprove my opinion? ------------------ She hates testicles, thus limiting the men she can admire to Democratic candidates for president. -- John Greenway, "The American Tradition", on feminist Elizabeth Gould Davis
Most rookies simply aren't getting enough minutes yet to make any sort of impact. Give them time, and ask again in two or three weeks. ------------------ My dream job is to be a Houston Rockets towel boy.
I realize this fadeaway, and I wasn't asking for predictions for the rest of the season based on what they have done up to this point. I simply wanted to know if anyone had any concrete stats of any kind indicating what kind of performances the "upper crust" rookies have turned in so far. ------------------ She hates testicles, thus limiting the men she can admire to Democratic candidates for president. -- John Greenway, "The American Tradition", on feminist Elizabeth Gould Davis
I was just thinking the same thing, so I looked up the numbers: <FONT FACE=COURIER> MPG PPG RPG APG BPG 1. Martin 32.3 8.0 6.7 2.7 2.3 2. Swift 9.0 4.0 2.8 3. Miles 28.3 8.5 5.5 1.8 1.5 4. In fact 9.0 and 6.7 are the highest in those categories respectively. It doesn't look like there will be any 20 pt scorers, or immediate impact players. What does that mean for the Rockets? It looks like, by trading down in this draft, the Rockets may have set themselves up with more picks in a better draft, or a possibility to trade up in a better draft. I don't really know much about the quality of next year's draft, but so far, this year looks like it was filled with future role-players and busts. ------------------ [This message has been edited by Tb-Cain (edited November 08, 2000).]
This has to be a first. When was it last seen that no players selected in the first round averaged double figures in either points or rebounds? The latter would be acceptable, but this is amazing. I expect that Martin will start doing better as the season progresses, but I would not be on any of the other guys. ------------------ Nederland 2002 Rockets fall in Phoenix. I agree Ace, that these players will start getting better numbers, but I think it would be great if this years rookie class did quite poorly, making Rudy look like a genius by trading down for a future draft pick in next years much deeper draft. Many people on this site called him stupid for choosing Collier, as if that is all we got for our #9 pick. ------------------ She hates testicles, thus limiting the men she can admire to Democratic candidates for president. -- John Greenway, "The American Tradition", on feminist Elizabeth Gould Davis
Would it be fair to say that many of the high picks in the 2000 draft are considered projects with high future potential rather than immediate impact players? K Martin....recovering from major injury S Swift.....high potential D Miles.....high potential M Fizer.....backup role Mihm........he dropped from early high draft projections and is considered to be a good solid player, but will probably never be a superstar M Miller....high potential Crawford....high potential D Johnson...high potential All of the above players had their positives and negatives debated on the BBS and it was generally agreed that it would take some time before they developed into impact players. So would you say the Rockets' deal to get a 1st round pick and Collier for Pryzbilla may net him a better player next year than he was able to get in this year's draft? Possible even trading up with the Rockets and Milwaukee picks for a higher pick. That's not to mention other picks that are owed from Orlando and another team I forget. ------------------ "We end up with Francis/Mobley isolations very often. Detroit owes us their 1st rouder in 2001 or 2002. It should end up being a pretty good pick. Almost certainly a lottery pick but definitly better than the 17th pick we chose Mirsad Turkcan at in 98. ------------------ ***Elie... we don't need no stinkin Elie Mobley's takin over ROCKETS IN 2000 BABY***
It seems that there will be more players in the 2001 draft that spent time in college developing their game versus the 2000 draft which had lots of developmental players. Various posters that follow the draft scene say that 2001 will be noticeably superior to 2000. RF34, NIKEstrad, MManal etc. Will Miles be better than someone who spent 3-4 years playing college ball? Maybe so, but the Rockets passed on R Lewis because he was a developmental player. They supposedly had interest in Miles, so perhaps Rudy has changed his mind about drafting youngsters. As long as Collier keeps improving and is in the rotation, the Rockets came out ahead trading down and gaining the Buck's future pick. Pryzbilla will probably be a journeyman center as will Collier. Very few star centers are found at the 9th pick. When the Rockets start cashing in the future picks that they have stockpiled, they will have to package picks in trades to move up or end up cutting/renouncing players that are currently good enough to be on the roster at this time. That is something to be impressed with. Mango ------------------ Test Your NBA Trade Ideas 1. Put new topics in the proper forum. Things happening in the rest of the NBA 2. You can never have too much money, too many friends or too many draft picks....something like that. Seriously, it's early but SG Stephen Jackson of the Nets is playing as good as anybody. Granted, the Nets are 2-3 and he's in the East, but he has respectable all around numbers including rebs, assists & steals. Fizer was NOT one of my personal favorites, but I must admit at this early stage he is also playing well enough for consideration. If 2000 turns out to be a dud draft, Rudy & CD will look like geniuses. ------------------ GATER
Just on Stephen Jackson...he was chosen by Phoenix a few years ago (three?) and actually came and played a few games down here in Sydney...and then was cut (he was injured I believe) Since then he has "been around the world " ...literally... He is still classified as a 'rookie' as it's his first season...but I think his experiences must have helped as he was as RAW a player as I have ever seen when he was here. Plenty of potential though... ------------------
i was just watching the clippers/hawks game, and Keyon Dooling had some wicked dunks. One was a behind the back pass fake for a jam, and another highflighing dunk on mutombo! He even did the finger wave. He is much better than i thought he was. ------------------ Hakeem, Hasaw, Haconquered.
I agree with fadeaway, they simply aren't getting enough minutes. If Stromile Swift got 25+ minutes, he would be rookie of the year, hands down. ------------------
Why isn't Swift getting 25 minutes ? Right now, I would say he isn't good enough to play 25 minutes a game. He can't beat out Othella. I'm sorry, I think if you are picked in the top 5, you should be able to contribute immediately. Swift is a FANTASTIC athlete, and that is all he is for now. Rudy and CD look like pretty smart now. Collier is playing at least as well as Swift, Moiso (didn't we pass on him), Pryz, Thomas, Crawford, Mihm, and even Martin. In Rudy we trust. ------------------ "There are two players carrying the Rockets right now. Hakeem and Olajuwon." Isiah Thomas
Swift looks completly lost out on the court right now. He's got lots of potential, but he's really raw. ------------------
