oldie but a goodie. why do Mexicans eat Tamales on Christmas? To have something to unwrap, hiyo! I tried telling all the Mexicans I know. Kam, it's so we can have something to unwrap, they say. You're not clever, it's not a new joke. And to this day, I still tell them that joke. CSB.
The best tamales I've ever had were sold by an old Black gentleman out of a cart on a corner of Broadway in Galveston, back in the 1950's. My Dad would drive us to Galveston just to get some of those delicious marvels. We'd eat a couple of dozen in Galveston, and then take 2 or 3 dozen home with us for later. Just incredibly, amazingly good!
you guys ever hear of these pumpkin and raisin tamales that whole foods serves up? My roommate was telling me they are the bomb but I don't really think he knows good food.
Tamales must be big not little n skinny . Real tamales are a lot bigger than the crap ya buy in tex mex places.
They sure taste good after 10 longnecks, eh? I recently tried Tejano Tamales on South Post Oak (next door to Cues). Pretty damn good tamales and salsas.
Not being biased or anything but salvadoran tamales, wrapped in banana leaves are the best. I believe mexicans have something similar in the oaxacan tamal but it still falls short in comparison.
