They have already surpassed 20K tickets sold and are expecting over 25K to attend. It may even break the attendance record for an SLC football game. Moving this game to Reliant was a great idea. Maybe next year they'll be forced to open the upper bowl. Sam Houston is 4-0 and ranked 11th in the country. They've already notched a win over a Division I-A team on the road this year, a rarity for any I-AA school. SFA has won the last 2 meetings, along with the conference championship both years. Time for the Kats to dish out some revenge for last year. Who else is going?
EAT EM UP KATS! I still think it's weird to play this at Reliant, but 20,000+ would make it pretty cool. Wish I could be there.
They should tarp the upperdeck and instead of boring black or whatever color, they should paint the top part of pine trees. Give it the feeling like you're playing in the pine trees.
The attendance last year was 24,685, so I would think even 25,000 is a little conservative. It wouldn't surprise me to see the number push closer to 27,000 or 28,000.
I went last year and got my tickets already for Saturday! The Sam side is pretty much sold out, we had to get seats close to the endzones which are neutral cause there was nothing along the sidelines. They did say the SFA side has seats available along sideline area's. If anything like last year the Jacks will show up, it looked awesome in Reliant last year with one side purple and one side orange. I'm hoping over time this will keep growing and they might start opening higher sections, maybe one section at a time. The demand is obviously there and we showed up last year early for tailgating, which helped tremendously with fans. It was said by many of the organizers that they didn't expect all that. If the tailgating continues to grow and become a tradition this could be a huge annual event, most fans will actually show up for the tailgating. Imagine if we only had an amusement park across the street with bridge access over the highway! Lot of pipe dreams but all I can do to help is continue to go every year (bout to be 2 for 2) and try to bring more friends and family when I do. Go Sam! 48-35-2 all-time record, Bearkats up
Heard on the radio that the game is pretty much sold out and may be standing room only. Lots of tailgating too. We're meeting some friends to tailgate at about 11. Wife got her bachelors from SFA but her Masters from Sam, so she's conflicted...but I will be decked out in all orange...and most likely quite drunk. Grandparents are babysitting all day, so IT'S ON. Man, this is going to be like a real college football game! SHSU 69 sfa 0
A game between SFA and Sam will definitely have a lot of drunks. I know because I was one of them last year (SFA class of '90). It was a lot of fun. All the fans were very civil. Sam is having a better year so far but it won't be quite the blow out as your 'da bears on SNL type of prediction (I hope).
45-10!!! Kats axed da jacks! SFA should really work on running the ball, all they do is pass. Had 23 total rushing yards on 9 attempts. Sam had an awesome 2nd half
Game was a blast. The tailgating was insane. I was totally taken aback by how many people were there. Felt like a big-time college football atmosphere. I haven't been to a game in Huntsville since the 90's. Is it like that every game now? When I was there, it was more like going to a high school game...
we had a mini-reunion at the tx state/nicholls game a couple weeks ago and we were all amazed at the change in atmosphere there. no one tailgated when we were in school and it was shocking to see the entire student side of the stadium filled to capacity. i obviously have no idea if it is that way in huntsville now, but had it been this way in san marcos in the mid-90s, there's a very good chance some posters wouldn't be so obsessed with the fact that i root for ut (THE HORROR!) or make up lies about me (i said the ut win over usc was best day of my life ). anway, enjoy. you're going down the saturday before thanksgiving!
I don't know about filling up the student side, but SHSU definitely has tailgating now. They didn't back in the late 90's when I was there. Most high school games I had been to were larger in crowd and atmosphere than a Sam game. Then again, the only ones I went to during my time there were to see my brother who was the kicker/punter for SWT.
