    So Mormon mythology is unbelievable.

How does that make it different from any other religion?

I've never met anyone more conservative than Mormons (it's actually against their religion to have fun), so I'm not sure how a Mormon couldn't lock up the conservative vote.

Instead of asking what fictional being a candidate prays to, we should ask what kind of person he is.

Also, people should get with the program and stop praying to fictional beings.

While we're at it, give us universal health care, cut military spending to fund schools, and legalize it.

The argument that Mormon beliefs are no more incredible or farfetched than Christian beliefs does not support an argument that they are, therefore, Christians. Mormons have a specific set of religious beliefs, including a belief in a chronology of events in America in the relatively recent past, that is entirely different from the beliefs of all Christian denominations.

I generally find myself being nice to Mormon missionaries...they are always friendly and leave me alone when I say I'm not Christian and I have no intention of converting.

I also knew two Mormons growing up -- a few I still stay in touch with, and while I can't say I have much in common, as little kids we got along great. I also became good friends with a lapsed Mormon who was a drinking buddy and was an ex-CIA agent. Very conservative, and (yes a hard core Jazz fan) but aa great story-teller and a very bright polygot and we were friends for years.

Jokes about milkshake breath and being uber-conservative are fair game, but...

I don't like the Mormon bashing cheers against the Jazz, even if I hate the team...and I agree with most posters when they say the things Mormons believe in aren't any stranger than any other religion.

This. Christians consider the Mormon church to be a "cult" because quite a few of their beliefs are fundamentally at odds with what the Christian church believes. That is what drives the definition. That has no bearing on the views of an observer who is external to the Christian faith; it is a relative definition.

Personally as a Christian I cringe at all these "pastors" who inject themselves into politics in the wrong way by blindly endorsing party and candidate manifestos with an utter lack of regard for fundamental biblical principles. A pastor -- and any Christian, in fact -- should stand for the principles of the word of God. Not for a party, not for a candidate. By doing otherwise they simply make themselves doubly irrelevant: both irrelevant to the rest of the world, and irrelevant to God at the same time.

Case in point: I think Rick Warren is cool and I like "The Purpose Driven Life". But it bothers me when I see him making comments about capitalism and tax rates. Since when did capitalism become a tenet of the bible?

I've had a few good friends who are mormon. They're really not different than any other person who's very religious.

My gf had a conversation with one of her good friends the other day, who's very very Christian. My gf is religious as well, but not to her friends extreme. They were talking about since and her friend says 'you can't prove science' and went on to say things like evolution is not real. I'm sorry, but to me, that sounds just as cult-like as what the Mormons believe.

cult. just like every other religion.

the 'mormon card' is going to get played often between now and the election.

when our country separates church and state, why should religious affiliation matter? ...it shouldn't.

mitt romney would make a great president.

i guess southern white evangelicals just can't get past the "story" of mormonism. but you would think what they have created in utah, a conservative white community would be very appealing to the southern evangelicals

No, though I do sometimes sub in there on Saturday nights. I remember playing there when they showed of a video of Uncle Sam in a hospital on a respirator. Pastor Young told everybody that "greed was good" and showed the clip from "Wall Street" to prove it.

I simply don't care. It's a religion, and as long as religion doesn't affect the performance of a President in a significant manner, what possible difference does it make? The poll is all about Romney. My problem with Romney is that he's running away from a good record as governor and is boring as hell, coming across as a stuffed shirt Plastic Man. Being a stuffed shirt Plastic Man shouldn't keep you from doing a decent job in the Oval Office, but can keep you from getting there.

Hey, Nixon was a Quaker, which is considered a bit of a fringe Christian sect. I enjoyed voting against Nixon for a lot of reasons, none of them having anything to do with the whole Quaker thingy. Again, why should anyone really give a damn? I didn't vote in the poll, btw.

You are not at the Value Voter shindig, either, though. These people care and they vote in the Republican primaries.

And well you should be offended since the Utah Jazz are EVIL!!!

As I have said before I don't discriminate on race, religion, sexual orientation or political view but I am an unrepentant Rocketist and have no tolerance for followers of evil and their agents on Earth!

    Not to flame here...
But a group of people with a far-fetched belief in a mythological deity hating on other people for having a even more absurd belief and practice is pretty ironic.

When I was in college, I had a class where we discussed what makes a religion a cult. I do not remember the criteria because it was so long ago however at that time the Mormon religion fit into the criteria to classify it as a cult according to my professor. That could have changed by now. I have had a few very good friends who are Mormon. I do not agree with any of their beliefs that come from the Book of Mormon. I do agree with what they take from the Holy Bible. I could care less if Romney is Mormon, I do not like him because I think he has changed his position on too many issues just to try to get elected. I prefer someone whose beliefs come from the heart and does not change positions just for elections.

Odd. I am Baptist and have attended several different Baptist churches in my life and have never heard a preacher bad mouth another religion in any Baptist service I have ever been to. I go very regularly. Now when I was in high school I dated a Catholic Hispanic girl. I would attend Saturday evening services with her quite a bit. The Catholic priest bad mouthed other religions almost every service. I seriously doubt that happens in all Catholic churches. I believe it has more to do with the individual preachers than denominations. I would be very skeptical of attending any church that spends time bad mouthing other religions. I would find another church.
