i've never asked rick to apologize other than apologizing for the fact that people could still see the sign.

and instead of going into a diatribe of white southern males are victims of the evil politically correctness scandal, just say yeah its a shame that such an offensive reminent from our past reared its ugly head. no pun intended

don't like Perry but this is a non story...Perry didnt do anything wrong here so why should he appologize when he did nothing wrong. Probably not the best strategy for his campaign but in a way his capiagn is right. There are people who would love to paint him as a southern white male racist.

It is a rock. They turned it over years ago and it isn't visible.

one could also pose the argument:

"if that hunting lease has been known by that name for decades, why associate with it at all. Why give your money to people who have made there property known by that title? Why not just find a different hunting lease?"

I suppose the politicians BS answer is: "we leased it to expressly change its name!"

But if it truly wasn’t painted over until they became embarrassed by it, then
    1. They knew it was offensive
    2. They didn’t really care until someone else pointed it

I am acting under the assumption that anything any politico says is 90% untrue; it also helps perpetuate the conversation.

Or, you could also say that no matter what the explanation someone somewhere, will find it offensive.

Do I think he should apologize, I dont care, he didn't paint it there. And if he did would he even mean it? I am more concerned with his track record, politically, socially and otherwise.

    With no source.

That same article also says it was painted on the rock which contradicts logic, and other claims that it was carved.

If that is the truth than there is no problem what so ever, however word on the street is that's not how it really happened. To me it doesn't matter I don't want him as my president either way.

Graham always struck me as civil, and at least marginally cerebral, so I'd like to think he's just speaking his mind here. Trent Lott, too; but that Strom Thurmond '48 thing was a little too close to the curb.

In fact, I think Graham would've been an okay primary candidate or potential running mate.

The Perry family left the name visible on the rock for years. Rick Perry should apologize for that, and admit that it wasn't a good move on the Perry family part.

It gives the impression that they don't care about being racially insensitive.

CaseyH fighting the good fight. I hate it when corrupt Texas good ole boys get painted as racially insensitive. I mean hell he had it painted over thirty years ago. What do you want from the man? He's only the Governor. Good job man.

The stigma of being in a predominately white neghborhood, school and professional work environment in a part of the country where the only way that could have happened is if the 40% of citizens there who are black were somehow marginalized or excluded.

the issue is that it was not "promptly" painted over - several people have now said it was up as late as the late 80's/early 90's.

i realize it was a leased property, but as a career politician ricky-boy should have exercised better judgement and not left the word out there as long as they did.

    and here you go...
