watching the Suns game, Yao impressed me with his dunks and his ablility to clogged up lane like Shaq and Bradley. My gripes are that he still looks a little lost and seems to walk instead of run back on defense. Also, he needs to just grab the boards, I mean just SNATCH the ball, don't just grab it. His boxing out looks better and isn't getting pushed out as much. I guess he's been getting stronger. Steve played sub par compared to his previous performances as did Mobley and Griffin. Maurice Taylor looked good and so did Thomas. They need to set up some plays instead of just chalking it up and passing on the fly.
Yao looked good, he is starting to come along. His rebounding and defense could improve but his offense looks good. Taylor looked great, and we should have played him more. Thomas, well I personaly hate him so I never see him playing a good game because I hate him so much. Tough loss, one we could have won if we set any play at the end of the game.
Yao looked a lot more comfortable. I hope Rudy wakes up and starts Yao instead of Collier. Jake was killing Collier from the start and that made a difference at the end. I think Franchise needs to recognize when his shot is not falling and attack the basketball to get to the line. I hoped he learned a lesson in this game and leads us on this tough road trip.
Yao becomes ease up with the tempo of the game. that was just a hail mary shot on the last posession.
The problem is that Rudy is too relactant to break out from relying on Francis and Mobley. I hardly saw the front court getting set up for the ball, the front court usually scores from rebounds and desperation passes from the guards. As for the last play of the game, I would've put Yao in just because he can find an open person and would've probably scored if he had a chance. As the team as a whole, theres talent no doubt about that, but Rudy T really needs to set up some set plays. I barely saw any pick and rolls or any back door cuts. What the hell? This is the NBA, play like it. 18 assists total for the rockets 26 assists for the Suns Distribute the ball and run some set offenses. Some pick and rolls and some backdoor cuts. 16 turn overs for the Rockets 11 for the suns I blame the turnovers for no set offenses, how are you gonna pass if you don't where your teams are gonna be? Run some damn plays.
It does seem like Yao could have at least drawn some attention away from the perimeter if he had been in the last possession.
Yao look quicker than he showed in the past couple of games. He played a good game tonight. But I did notice one problem though. He always likes to fake before he shoots even in a position very close to basket. I would hope that he would have just dunk the ball straight with authority.
Yao looked great. He is going to be a star. He is a 7-5-7-6 player that can dribble, shoot, drive to the hoop, and block shots. He can do it all.
Well you have wait till he builds up his muscle in his arms. I think its good that he likes to pump fake. Let face it, even though he is 7' 6", he just dont jump that high and he doesnt have a wide body. His jump shot is not unblockable. But whoever want to block his shot needs to jump hard and quick. If he perfects that pump fake, his shot will then be truely unblockabe.
YAO Shoots >75% in CBA and shoot 21/21 in a playoff game vs BAYI under huge pressure where only a championship will bring him to NBA. In WBC he shoots >73% where USA(All NBA stars) only got 6th places. In NBA only after 5 games he improved his shooting to>54%. Have you ever seen any player ever shoot 21/21 FG in any game anywhere?? nuff said.
Agree. Nobody can stay in the air all the time. Simply because of Yao's height, his scoring and shot blocking will be good. His defense and rebounding needs a long time to develop. Yao earned his minutes last night.
From what I can tell, once he gets the ball in the low post against single coverage, it's an automatic deuce.
What I like about Yao is you can see him working on his weaknesses on a game by game basis. In those early games, you could read Yao's problems like a book. Push him off the offensive block and he'll be posting up too far away. On defense face him up, juke inside and beat him baseline. I have seen much less of that in recent games. His post position is usually much closer to the basket now and I haven't seen his man blow by him in a while. I expect another 5-10 games down the road, he will have significantly imrpoved another area of weakness for him.
Yep. Two centers that I like to watch are Zydrunas Ilgauskas and Yao. They play *old school* and you can tell they have skill above most other players. It's just that Yao isn't up to the strength and speed of the NBA, YET!
