Since this is primarily a Houston based board judging from the best WR in the NFL thread, I wanted informally test DonnyMost assertiion that the SEC will take over the Houston market with the addition of ATM. So which is your favorite college team?
I'd say the SEC would take a decent size chunk of the pie from the Big 12 but with UT alumni + t-shirt fans mix in some OU,Tech,TCU,Baylor fans down here they will still have the market....
I got to Tx State and our football team blows so I cheer for UH. I don't really understand rooting for teams you have no connection to. I almost went to UH and I would have been a 3rd gen so I think it's ok to cheer for them. But people who just cheer for teams because confuse me.
Probably ought to let people choose more than 1 team. But, of course, we'll be lucky to get 100 votes, so, not exactly very representative either way.
Is it not already SEC country? How many Houstonians watched Florida/Bama last weekend compared to UT/ISU? How many Houstonians watched LSU/Oregon? How many Houstonians watched Rice/UT? Mwuahahahahahha.
The SEC does surprisingly well here already, no doubt with A&M and their fans and alumni coming into the fold, the casual fan will start watching more SEC football. Though how much is TBD.
Florida/Bama was the better game on paper, if you weren't specifically a UT fan you want to watch the best game on. I bet Nebraska/Wisconsin did pretty good also. The SEC won't control it, but Houston will be a true split market though. LSU has a toehold in Houston already, not a big one but there is certainly a presence, especially since Katrina and LSU's 2 championships. They should have been a poll option I didn't go to college and I'm an ardent Longhorn supporter. Not a bandwagon guy though. Started watching back in 98 because they had a redhead QB and a running back chasing a record. A&M was actually the better program back then. Its just like supporting a pro team, we didn't have one specifically here is Houston. If UH was a competitive major conference school i probably would have gone with them.
Donny, It looks like you should petition the SEC in taking UH as their 14th team, then the SEC would own Houston.
