Did you see that postgame interview with Marbury? "Alright, Man!" "Fantastic, Man!" I thought dude was gonna drop to his knees and service Stephon right there on the court. He acted as if that was the first NBA game he had ever covered (and maybe it was). And that shirt...who dresses you, Sal, Shaq?? I liked Turico and Tolbert ok but Sal must go.
When I saw that guy I thought I had inadvertently changed the channel to MTV. I was waiting for him to introduce the next music video.
Is that the same guy who does the X-games, and if so are they that short on guys who possibly know something about basketball.
I asked this question in chat. Where did ESPN find this guy? I knew this guy sucked after he described the Christie Fox fight in the tunnel of the Kings Lakers game.
ESPN's broadcasts of the NBA are pathetic. The whole ESPN crew sucks. Marbury sounded like Hardaway when he was interviewed.
Sal probably watched too many Ahmad Rashad interviews with Jordan and thinks sucking up to and slobbering all over stars is the thing to do.
Stop whining you pansies! I had to watch the Texas game simultaneously with Dick Vitale on ESPN2. Talk about painful.
Maybe ESPN wants to become trilingual(English, the Spanish version, and now Ebonics) I have no issues with African American reporters/broadcasters, but I do have a problem when a major outlet in my future profession gives jobs to guys like Sal and Tim Hardaway because the industry is ultra ultra competitive.
I do wonder what the NBA/ESPN was thinking with the hiring of Tolbert, Hardaway, and Sal? Though, Elliot is better than I thought he would be and seems to be getting more comfortable with each game he does.
Flagrant, We haven't disrespected anyone, Hardaway and this Sal character do not deserve jobs in the broadcast industry. Why don't you tell the reporters who lost out on those positions, how ESPN plans to make up for their measly 10-25k salaries. When it is obvious neither guy belongs on air. I am studying broadcast journalism for a career in sports reporting so you better believe this hits close to home. If my ebonics comment offended you, it was a joke that fit. Sorry. What is disrespectful is ESPN hiring people like this when: a) The broadcast journalism industry is crazily competitive b) Reporters often only make 10k-25k per year c) And they are the best sports media outlet in the country so they are the standard for everyone else That's my problem with it. I like Kevin Frazier and Stuart Scott, so this isnt about Black vs White. It's about the issues listed above.
I was upset that someone was surprised that Sean Elliot was alright. Why was he even mentioned in the same post as Tim "mumble mouth" Hardaway. They only have two things in common, one is that they both played professional Basketball. I have no patience for sideline reporters in basketball period but aside from his dreads whats makes Sal different from any other sideline flake.
I thought the entire ESPN coverage abysmal, pathetic, grotesque, disgusting and an insult to the broadcasting profession. I walked outside at one point looking for a speeding bus to jump in front of... didn't see any and returned for more self-flagellation. Considered getting a running start and hurling myself head-first into the TV, but my wife wouldn't let me. How long is their contract for?? I've seen Bill and Murph only once this year. I'm wantin' them REAL bad.
I like Sal. He does the X-games for ESPN. I think bringing him out of the vert ramps, or dirt jump tracks into a different element is always interesting. It means you can cover alot of aspects of general sports.
Maybe he should stay there. The X-game crowd is different from an NBA crowd. He needs to adapt and change his game. I don't have a problem with someone trying to be hip. But a journalist is supposed to be unbiased and clearly he wanted to take Stephon to bed with him if his interview was an indication. (And no, I'd say the same thing if he treated Francis the same way after a Rockets win.) If it becomes a problem I'm sure his bosses will talk to him and tell him to tone it down.
i dont mind Sal that much, but Hardaway is just God-awful. i literally change the channel every time he's on. i feel myself getting stupider when i listen him. he makes bill walton sound like chick hearn.
One of the things I didnt like was when that Tolbert guy gave his Opinion on Yao Ming, and stated it as FACT, When he said that Yao would be Good, but NEVER great, and he might average 18 per game, I wouldnt have minded it so much but he stated his opinion as fact! I was just glad that the Rockets were on 51, So I changed it after that lol
