Why the hell would anyone feel sorry for Kareem Jackson, a guy making a couple of million dollars that he hasn't earned 1 penny of. All that guy does is hurt the team when he is on the field. The guy is garbage and I give it about 2 years before he is out of the league.
Watching these games, I feel the Texans secondary has been tested exactly once, against NO. Colts and Miami are simply bad teams. Steelers featured a horrible line in conjunction with a vertical passing game, apparently not knowing they have a horrible line. So regardless of stats, I'm not sold on whether the secondary is actually good or they've just been protected. Still, everything looks good enough for the regular season. I don't see enough great teams that can pick apart our defense in the regular season. So it very well may be adequate. And it's not like we Texans fans need to worry about post-season matchups right now.
The thing that bothers me most about Kareem is that he hasn't shown any improvement over his rookie year. Kareem cant play press coverage because his technique is bad and he cant jam the receivers at the line. He doesnt have any make-up speed once he gets beat and he isnt an elite tackler. What one skill does he bring to the table? None! Jason Allen isnt the answer either. He gets picked on as well but he is at least near the receiver when the ball is thrown. That alone gives you a chance to make a play on the ball. Kareem isn't in the same area code as the receivers. Jason Allen is the less horrible choice between the 2. Andre Johnson....Get Well Soon! Kareem Jackson...Get Well, in the offseason.
If the criteria for a proven secondary is holding down great passing offenses consistently, then there's no such thing as a proven secondary. Who has the best, most proven secondary? Eagles? Jets? Eagles are 1-3 with horrible performances vs the Falcons, Giants, AND 49ers. Offenses that are nowhere near as potent as the Saints. Jets have been fairly impressive, but they're only 2-2 with their best win over the Cowboys where they allowed 326 passing yards, and 2 passing TD's. And the 1 INT was a horribly thrown ball by Romo straight to Revis who was covering a literally limping Bryant. I guess GB has a really good secondary, but they allowed 400+ yards to a rookie QB, and did even worse against Brees than the Texans DBs did. Plus they have a better front 7. Not saying our secondary is great, but it's unfair to say the performance they've shown so far doesn't mean anything.
The problem with Kareem Jackson is unfixable (speed). You CANNOT teach speed. But I believe our biggest concern for the following draft is addressing the WR position. We are weak as hell there.
Kareem Jackson will, at the very least, be an average NFL corner. In fact, I'd already say he's there. This coming from someone who hated on him all last year, from the moment we drafted him. It takes about two years for a corner to emerge in the NFL. And its dam near impossible to emerge in your first year when you're not taught technique, and you're supposed to lead arguably the worst secondary in NFL history. Right now, he's a scapegoat for the ghost of a bad defensive coordinator. You guys need to learn patience, and how to let go of past bias.
I can accept being patient with him for another year...but to say he's currently an average CB is a stretch. He might be in the bottom 10% if I'm trying to be generous.
Pass rush and good pass coverage go hand in hand. Texans' pass rush all but disappeared when Breese got hot in the second half. I don't totally blame Kareem Jackson for what occurred. If Jason Allen had started at CB against NOLA the same would of happened, or worse.
^The problem is that the bar for Kareem Jackson should not be Jason Allen. My criteria for a good secondary is simply how long can they can hold up before breaking down. The longer, the better. But if the pass rush gets to the QB's face before then, you obviously can't really tell. Or if the QB sucks and just misses receivers, you can also not tell. There's definitely a lot of variables since football is as team-oriented as you get(11-on-11 at any given time). So it's hard to quantify it. Also, interceptions IMO is a big deal, since turnovers is so huge in football. And historically the Texans suck in this department.
Nobody is noticing Brice is coming into his own great pre-season and hasn't giving one catch to my memory this year and is the fastest player on the team. Horrible technique last year with bad defensive coaching he maybe him and Connor comeback players of the year for us.
Some of you are kidding yourself. Kareem Jackson is still one of the absolute worst corners in the NFL
Wallace had six 100 yard receiving games dating back to last year. We were suppose to be his 7th to tie him with Charley Hennigan and Michael Irvin for the most consecutive 100 yard receiving games. I am happy we didn't become a statistic for the betterment of a record for a Steeler.
im willing to say that kareem is better than Allen now.. Allen is just as much of a liability, and hes maxed his potential.. kareem still has room for growth and has made progress since last year..
as bad as kareems rookie season looked, he didnt even finish in the bottom 10 of success rate.. he was showing progress than DREW BREES beats him with a good throw and everyones ready to start screaming bust again..
