Another team that could be in an interesting position is Houston, which has a trade exception that expires in early October, courtesy of the Pippen deal. The Rockets could get $8 million to $12 million under the cap next summer depending on what they do with Olajuwon. Their thinking is that they will use the exception only if they can acquire a legit keeper. Otherwise, they'll do what Indiana did, which is let the exception expire. The Pacers had to use theirs by midnight Tuesday, but after shelling out all the money to Jalen Rose and Croshere, and with Miller still out there, they probably figured they'd spent enough. Or, as we noted above, they might have looked around and simply decided there was no point spending any more.

I do not understand what this piece talks about when referring to what "we will do with Olajuwon"?
Does this have to do with us letting go of Olajuwon before this season, rather than let him play out his farewell tour?

It sounds to me like they don't know this is Dream's final year. I believe they are talking about re-signing Dream next season.

I think they mean there has been no final word from Hakeem and the Rockets. I, and everyone else, assume he will retire.
