Did anyone catch Sports Center this morning?

Shaq was due to come back tonight, but I guess he saw that they are playing the Hawks and figured the team could handle this one while he grabs a few more days off.

He is expected to make his season debut this Sunday against "Yao Ming and the Rockets"!

Yes, Ming is the much better bench player at this stage of his career :)

You think Shaq is a better bench player, because last I checked Shaq hasn't produced anything off the bench. And when he's available to play he sure isn't doing it off the bench.

I am sure Yao will learn something from Shaq. A little attitude,
you know, like "mean", "arrogant" toward the game and the oponents is something that Yao needs the most at the moment IMO.

Either that or what kind of varnish is used on the benches.

I hate to be Yao during that game. Not only is Kobe gonna try to dunk over him and other lakers trying to "welcome" him to the NBA especially the Shaq daddy himself ,the laker crowd is gonna be trashing the poor rookie to death.

Its a tough decision for Rudy, will you let Yao learn or will you let Yao save face? If I was rudy, I'd let Ming play and let him set a bar to where he should be.

I say Yao gets fouled out after Cato and Collier gets fouled out unless they start calling Shaq's offensive fouls.

    Why?

My take: I think Yao should be played just the same for this game as he has been in the others..No use holding him back, or being afraid..He needs to learn..and he aint learning jack sitting at the end of the bench. Put him in against Shaq and let him see what he can do. If he fails, it will motivate him even more..if he succeeds, we succeed..

Ming should play his normal time and Rudy should use him in the high post like he did with EG in the last minute of the game. Ming can then drag Shaq out to the free throw line. Ming passed up a wide open 20ft shot and passed it off. No one was within 10ft of him.

"MING you can shoot that shot".

Colin Pine, please translate for me.;)

So we'll have Shaq jumping into him (foul called on Yao), Rick Fox slapping his nuts (foul called on Yao for retaliating), Kobe running circles around him...

Should be interesting. The only thing I know about the game is Steve will go off for his usual big numbers, and hopefully Derek Fisher won't get the hot hand thanks to Steve's matador "D."

Edit: Not to mention ESPN will drool over Shaq's return, and show the Big Aristotle (chortle) using Yao to wipe sweat puddles off the floor. (I'm rooting for you Yao, but you know far better than I that this will be quite the learning experience for you).

The thing Yao Ming needs the most now is an elbow-in-your-face from Shaq. It will fix everything for Ming in his still young NBA journey. The bonus of it could be another rivalry for the Lakers, unlike that "great WNBA team".

Damn I was hoping he wouldn't be back sunday that way we could win that game! Cato is playing great though so hopefully he will be back for that game.

Yao should get his normal minutes. If he can just have one good move on Shaq and decent production, he shouldn't get dogged too much. He will get dogged by the media unless he puts up 40 20 & 10 with 5 blocks, even then they'll probably make up some excuse.

The thing to remember though is that while the lakers want to embarass Yao, they forget that Yao's teammates aren't the type to back down from a challenge. I expect Steve to school whoever's guarding him and at least attempt a dunk on Shaq. Cat should put up good numbers. Griff should block the two chumps again, hopefully sending kobe to his ass. Let's not forget that while Shaq wants to send a message to our 20 yr old rook, Cato has been playing inspired and is not some skinny kid.

Anyway this team has a history of having a harder time against the lakers when Shaq DOESN'T play. So we'll see.
