Its actually comical how this little "tiff sums up your (Khan's) opinion on everything in the middle east. 1) Azadre starts 2) I retaliate 3) you decide that it is both of our faults...but mostly mine
Is it not insulting to call someone a "towel-head" or "camel-jockey" as NJRocket Just did or am I blind. If I called someone a nig*er, I would be banned from this board and I don't see how this is any different.
Right, it has nothing to do with illegal settlements throwing families out of their homes every day including today BTW, RocketMan Tex, I agree with you very much about Rabin. Its sad that he was assasinated fighting for peace.
Our own little personal escalation. IMHO, Azadre's use of quotes may be inapproriate or inflammatory, and it could certainly upset people. But Azadre is young, passionate about this subject, but has shown some desire to avoid inapproriate comments. I don't know why he put 'jew' in quotes, but I (personally) would wait for a response from him before reading too much into it. NJRocket, I understand that you were trying to make a point, but it also escalated the situation by using what were clearly deragatory statements. Azadre is not dumb, I think a more subtle approach would have sufficed for your analogy. FD, Oddly, the point you were trying to make with your 'n' word post is similar to the point NJRocket was trying to make with his analogy. FWIW, I enjoy reading posts on the ME from Azadre, FD Kahn, and NJRocket. You all have good points to make, again, IMHO.
He's old enough to know what he was doing. Not an excuse. How could it be for any reason other than to be derrogatory? Yep...not good man. That will only make things worse, not better. Agreed again. Damn Cohen...you hit the nail on the head.
I admit that after hearing those racial slurs, I may have been a bit overzealous in my rebuttal. I just think the word "jews" in parenthesis is different than someone calling a group "camel-jockey's" or "towel-head" and I was quite upset about it. Though all of us argue about the methodology in how to achieve peace, all of us irregardless to which side or viewpoint all are simply upset because of the violence.
What upsets people about slurs isn't the word used it is the message conveyed. Using Jews in quotes like Azadre did got the same message across as would have been had he used a slur.
Please no racial slurs. Azadre has a long history of going overboard on this subject, and I'm aware, but please don't stoop to that level.
