Kenny couldn't take it when Cassell was starting to shine and he was number 2 so
is basically like Maxwell to me. Both were vital to the championship(s), but couldn't care less about them now. Kenny is still bitter towards Houston for how they treated in 95-96 or something.

TNT was the only place Kenny fit in his whole life. I do agree he did some cool things like the Dunk Contest, setting 3 pts record, and the championships. It all boils down to your actions.. Now on TNT it almost seems like he hates our team, weather it was Cassell coming in the fourth, or just hanging out with Barkley- He should respect the platform that gave him a chance to be successful.

yeah dude, but you realize that was toward the end of Kenny's career. he didn't last too much longer after that.

When we first got him (reference those chronicle post) he was freaking awesome, he ran the pick and roll to perfection under Don Chaney.

If your history of Kenny Smith with the Rockets is:

    1. dunk contest
    2. the Orlando Game 1
    3. TNT

you completely fail the Kenny Smith in Houston test. F-

What he says on TNT has nothing to do with his tenure in Houston and how well and STABLE he was as a point guard.

The reason why Cassell played tons of more minutes is that he was a change of pace point and he was freaking awesome. How'd his career end up?

We got Kenny Smith in 90, he was averaging 17.7 points 7 assists and shot 52% from the field.

    Apparently nobody here remembers 1990.

    Kenny Smith was awesome and

I'm not going to lie, I lost a little respect for Kenny after he said Kobe was a better ball player than Dream and this was before the 2009 finals. I still appreciate him for that tornado like spinning jumpshot and all those threes in the first game of the finals that helped swing the momentum in our favor. He played very well when Dream went down with the eye injury and that pick and roll with OT was killer. It was the biggest reason Kenny got MVP votes and actually finished ahead of Dream. That said, there should be an unappreciation thread for his defense.

The Bulls had BJ Armstrong during the first 3 championships, Kenny could destroy Armstrong.

Sure, his defense was an issue, but think about Yao Ming and how bad our point guards have been getting the ball to him.

Every single one of them sucked at it. Steve Francis , Rafer etc. Kenny got the ball to Dream and wasn't a turnover machine.

I miss post-entry passing. Horry, Mad Max, Elie, Kenny and Sam were all excellent at making the timely and proper feed to the post.

Kenny was better than both BJ and Paxson because he was much quicker and explosive. Those guys were spot up shooters and didn't handle the ball much cause of the triangle. Kenny was much more than a spot up shooter in his early Rocket days but he turned into one after Rudy took over and ran it through Dream.

True. I'm just saying that Kenny has ego issues that started showing in the 94-95 season. Cassell started the 2nd half of a January game in 1995 and Kenny was pissed, you could see him on the bench cursing and everything.
Then in 95-96 he was really not happy and complained about it openly.
Same thing with Max so that's why I don't really care for them, besides what they did obviously for the Rockets.

I consider both of them part-time Rockets unlike Brooks, Bullard, Herrera, Elie, OT, Cassell, Horry & Dream. They always show love and talk about those days. Kenny and Max were bitter then and still are now, though Max has more serious things to worry about.

On a side-not, Kenny is terrible on TNT, even worse than Barkley. The guy is full of himself, thinks he's funny, has these annoying moments where he thinks he's saying something insightful and starts laughing cheek-to-cheek for no reason.

The entertainment and chemistry with Kenny/Charles is fantastic though.

You ever see that show when they have McHale or Webber on it?

It's not as fun or spontaneous.

Yes, Kenny has a bigger ego now he's on TNT. I don't mind him dropping Clutch City references all the time. :)

1990-91 Kenny Smith with today's no hand check rule (which ironically he helped create with Derrick Harper in 94) would rock the NBA.

17.7pts 7 assists 52%, that's hand checking too. Plus he was athletic enough to be in the dunk contest.

I don't understand why this is a 2 star thread. Keep them coming Tincup.

I want an Otis Thorpe one next time...

I wish we would have had Kenny around when we had

    Dream
    23-9-3
    Chuck
    19-14-5
    Clyde
    18-6-6

This team had the potential to be the greatest team ever assembled. The chemistry was there, but outside of Mario and Kevin Willis, we were sooooo awful everywhere else. Matt Maloney, UGH...

    of course you do.
Those who really followed the Rockets when Kenny first showed up know how valuable he was in bringing stability. Were people thinking Sleepy Floyd was the long term answer?

Those other fans only know TNT and the Kenny Smith Orlando game 1.

We got two championships and he was vital in both years playoff series. 28 points against Utah in the playoffs? remember that?

I believe 99% of the Kenny hate is because of TNT. And 100% these lunatic clutchfans were proven wrong by Kenny.

just read this whole thread. all the Kenny haters never saw him play at all in the early 90s. I bet they don't even like 90s hip hop either!

In all seriousness, I want a Moochie Norris/Walt Williams appreciation thread... I love those guys, lol.

The timekeeper incident overshadows the 25 pt game. The Jazz fans also made a bunch of excuses that series for Karl's injury (flu).

    I 5 star'd this sucker.

If we don't respect our own teams, no one else ever will.
