I run a restaurant called Dirty Martin's Place (Dirtys) in Austin by the ut campus and we have several tvs in our back dining room and 3 65in big screens on our back patio and always have the Texans games on as myself and my asst manager are both from Htown and fans. Sunday is my day off however so the last thing I am gonna do is go up to work and watch the game but everyone is welcome anytime. I live South so would also love to find a cool place to hang out for the games in that area.
I like to go to Cain & Abels off 24th and.. Rio Grande? Don't remember clearly where it's at. Cuatro's is pretty good too, there's one big ass tv outside in the patio but I doubt they'd be playing the Texans game. I went there for a couple OKC Thunder games this past year
Dallas is playing at the same time as Houston, so that could add to the difficulty of finding a place showing it with the sound.
real talk.. I just moved here myself. What the few of us texans fans that exist should do is get together at a bar/whatever for a couple of games, get to know each other or whatever then start a house party rotation. (?) I like watching at home - real fans, real beer, real food, ya know? probably going to try out 3rd base tomorrow though; not sure.
Unless you're willing to deal with the traffic and parking headaches of West Campus, avoid Cain and Abel's on 24th and Rio Grande. For those not in the know, it is the frat daddy hang-out in West Campus and they are all Cowboys fans. Prepare to have a terrible time. The food at Cuatros has gotten better over the past year and a half, which is a great thing. If was always my favorite place to watch a game (especially soccer, which the owner has gone to great lengths to cultivate a hub for) if the weather was nice outside. Third Base is predictably packed and if you're going to be that close to Clarkesville, head to The Tavern on Lamar. The food is much better and they have tons more televisions.
I was thinking of going to watch tomorrow's game at Shoal Creek Saloon. I had dinner there the other day and noticed it's a big Saints bar, so I thought it'd be a lively atmosphere for this week's game. Of course that may be a terrible place to be if the Saints start pounding us. Their bar area is pretty small inside, but they have a decent sized patio out back with some TV's. Thoughts from anyone that's been there? I haven't been to The Tavern yet, so that's another possibility.
Shoal Creek is one of my favorite places in Austin; the crawfish etouffee is great. That being said, it's the Saints hangout. During their Super Bowl run, they shut the place down and only allowed in regulars who had been going for years. This was to combat the crowd who thought it would be "fun" to watch the Saints at a Louisiana-themed bar. They were turned away at the door. That should tell you the kind of people who go; they're vocal and they love the Saints.
Haven't been to hooters in years but I'm checking this out for the game. http://p.twimg.com/AZ46GjoCMAATNjM.jpg
Nice. Do you happen to know if they ever play the audio for games? I haven't been to Hooter's for a game in a while either, so I can't remember.
ya'll got this mess down pat. should have googled "place to watch texans" when I first got here. we're skippin third base today on the advice i got from here; definitely not into crowded places while eatin.
damn, I should have gone there. At The Tavern now..they have the audio on the Pats game, and they have an idiot working the TV
