Which one of the founding fathers supported lying under oath and jury nullification? The "right thing to do" is to tell the court and the lawyers that you cannot be fair and impartial (i.e. tell the truth during voir dire since you took an oath to tell the truth at that point) and be dismissed for cause from the jury. To lay behind the log and legislate from the jury box is the cowardly route. You don't change the law with that stance, you just waste everyone's time and violate your oath. I'm not sure how lying under oath and wasting time and money is doing "what is right." If you can't be fair, don't be on the jury - end of story.
as soon as I hit submit, a flood of quotations from law school came rushing back to me. Yes, some founding fathers did in fact support jury nullification, but there was no consensus. It didn't have strong enough support to manifest itself as a specifically enumerated right. Despite the quotations from some of the founding fathers, I still stand by my opinion that it is the cowards way out.
<br> You enforce those speed limits big boy. Surely that's what police do best. I'm sure you hurt DD's feeling there with the amateur hour webcam videos bit. Oh that silly clown.
I don't really care about that, sometimes the laws are screwed up in this country, and I believe a Jury is charged with making decisions based upon common sense as well as the law. I understand it is not how it is intended, but that is how I feel, and will operate. DD
Oh, I can be fair, a lot more fair than some of the laws that are being abused these days by police. DD
are you seriously trying to defend someone that was 11, or should i say 12, speeding tickets in 10 years? I hope your kids don't plan on crossing the streets he drives on.
Good flame attempt...quote me once as saying 11 or 12 times. Whatever, just keep this thread going with your repetitive r****d comments as if it bothers me. Let's see if we can hit 10 pages... Edit: Looking back at your quote I actually have no idea what you were trying to say. I think I lost about 10 points on the GMAT verbal section by reading it though.
I would say this is the norm in Houston, it is the flow of traffic. That's the way I drive and it is almost expected, even by the police. If you are going 1 or 2 mph below the speed limit in the far left lane in some areas around houston, cops will zip around you, the way people usually do when they're angry about sitting behind someone who's driving slow. I think more people would respect the speed limit laws if they were always strictly enforced. It's just silly when you see multiple police officers with a group of other drivers all going ~10mph above the speed limit but you get pulled over going < 5mph above the speed limit other times. If the posted speed limit was that important, it would be heavily enforced.
It's kinda like when you ask a girl how many sexual partners she has had. If it's 10 or 11, she'll say 6. So in your case, in your original post when you said about 10 in the past 10 years.... well you get the idea. It's probably more like 12-13. What type of car do you have? Do you have any mods on it?
I have a stock Lexus IS250. I've said many times in this thread that it was a conservative estimate. I would say it may be closer to 8 or 9. If I had just said in my OP "I've never had a ticket go on my record" (which is true) we would actually be discussing my original question and not how many tickets I've gotten. I just didn't think the peanut gallery consisting donkey, Wilford, swoly, and Crazydave would keep it going this long but **** it let's see if we can hit 10 pages.
Here's the thing. Even if you took defensive driving, they still know how many tickets you have received. Your insurance won't know, but the police will.
Yeah, that's true but over a 10 year span that's not nearly enough tickets to get your license suspended like the officer said. I posted the law earlier in the thread.
True. He's just being a Dick. But, you are a repeat offender - maybe he's just trying to get you to wake up and realize that you speed (or get caught) a little bit too often. I know one guy who got 3 speeding tickets in 1 year and got his license suspended for 3 months - so I'd say 1 per year isn't enough but I also know it would be up to the judge to decide if it actually came down to it. And I know that IS250 is peppy - so just be careful and have fun driving it and let this thread die.
Well, as my battery of responses (one) to your op show, the amount of tickets was not the only issue I saw, so that really doesn't change much except the license revocation claim by the officer, which sounded bunk all along anyway. Good misdirection though. I thought you were interested in input? I guess only the kind that agreed with you? Or did you not find my one response to be suitably appropriate in your "I'd like to dodge my accountability" thread? I thought it was spot on, with a dash of wit. Everyone's a critic, I guess. NOW I am wasting time. That wasn't as fun. Gonna have to get to 10 pages without me. Though, I will say, calling out anyone who didn't agree with you is a good way to start. Still, doubt it gets you there. Good luck with your ticket. Let us know how it goes.
Been driving 33'years. I never drive BELOW the speed limit. NEVER had a ticket. You suck at driving and don't deserve to have a liscense.
I received a ticket when I was 17 (which was effectively wiped off my record the day I turned 18). I haven't had another in 36 years. I tend to drive 5-7 MPH over the speed limit on freeways and highways. I never knowingly speed through subdivisions. I never speed through school zones.
this. i haven't had one since the day we traded for mcgrady and that one was just me not paying attention to the speed dropping on 59 in livingston. i love setting the cruise on 75 and enjoying the ride rather than flipping out when i see a cop car up ahead.
So you don't care if every juror in the entire court system decides to apply THIER version of how the law should be in every case that is tried? Do you realize how absurd that would make things? I sincerely hope that if you are ever called for jury duty you will be honest and tell the prosecution and defense exactly how you will operate so they will immediately kick you off the panel. You neglected to answer my hypothetical DUI question.
What part of his response confused you? It is clearly written. Bad driver. Check. Terrible liar. Check Poor reading comprehension. Check.
