The Wire has been described by many critics as the greatest television series ever made and one of the most accomplished works of fiction of the 2000s.[2][3][4][5][6][7] The show is recognized for its realistic portrayal of urban life, its literary ambitions, and its uncommonly deep exploration of sociopolitical themes. The fourth season of The Wire has been universally lauded and hailed as one of the best seasons of television ever produced. As of 2011, it is the highest rated individual TV season of all time on Metacritic with a score of 98 based on 21 critics—including 17 perfect score reviews Several reviewers have called it the best show on television, including TIME,[75] Entertainment Weekly,[67] the Chicago Tribune,[76] Slate,[56] the San Francisco Chronicle,[77] the Philadelphia Daily News[78] and the British newspaper The Guardian,[38] which ran a week-by-week blog following every episode,[79] also collected in a book, The Wire Re-up.[80] Charlie Brooker, a columnist for The Guardian, has been particularly enthusiastic in his praise of the show, both in his "Screen Burn" column and in his BBC Four television series Screenwipe, calling it possibly the greatest show of the last 20 years.[81][82] In 2009, TIME listed it as the best television series of the 2000s.[83] President of the United States Barack Obama has said that The Wire is his favorite television series.[86] The Wire is frequently studied and taught in sociology and anthropology courses of many prestigious schools including Harvard, Duke, and Middlebury
I've never seen one complete episode of any reality tv show, even popular ones like American Idol, Dancing With the Stars, Survivor, and so on. The OP is missing out on some really good TV shows though.
yeah, its just another level. the episodes from the fourth season with kids can haunt you. it made the sopranos look like a comedy. the guy who created it is also involved in the former NBC series "Homicide, Life on the Street" both basically based in Baltimore. I guess i have some good ones Friends The Office
I guess the biggie of mine on that list is the Sopranos. I'd rather watch the poolhall fight scene from Mean Streets on a constant loop than watch even one minute of that show. I think one of those dumb clucks was on Carson Daly with a "Goomba Cookbook," with Carson pretending to be intimidated or something, and that just sealed the damn deal. Weird that I've never watched Grey's Anatomy, because I love the cast of Private Practice. Could never get into "Sunny in Philadelphia" or "Arrested Development." "Heroes" just seemed stupid from the get go with those dumbass promos. Can't watch Glee, either; high school didn't suck for me so much as it didn't make any ******* sense. Honestly this show seems like "A Different World" for American Idol, once the host organism dies and whatever crappy story arc they have gets resolved; the bad writing and low-end demographics will kill this thing. Can't get into the drug shows either, don't know why. And will never watch 30 Rock, I love Fey and think she helped save SNL, but I think she's just gotten some lucky breaks.
If you havent seen one full episode of The Office somethings wrong. You're missing out. Go Netflix it from the beginning. You'll thank me later.
Most every show that people list (i.e., Breaking Bad, Sopranos, The Wire, Dexter, Prison Break, etc., etc.) are serial shows. Of course, you're not going to watch a single episode unless you started from the pilot episode.
Less-than-perfect argument in the era of Video-on-Demand; or even the DVD section at Best Buy. It's amazing that every new show that lasts even a season gets a DVD, no questions asked.
Nothing surprising about an individual not having seen any particular one of those shows; every one of them is completely unpalatable to specifc sets of TV viewers. And not demographically or anything; Friends might be the most annoying and detestable top-rated show in history.
