Vincent Young scored 17pts Tuesday night in his first (I believe) game back with the basketball team. OS
I believe McNeal has decided to forego the basketball season to avoid injuries. On Selvin Young, If he is as good as you say he is I think it would be better for him to not redshirt his first season. He could play alongside former Player of the year Bensen for a season, and then take over for the next three years.
Benson has to be there at least two more seasons, so if Young played with him next season (highly doubtful with Williams and Ike also coming back) Benson will still be here for at least Young's sophomore campaign.
Whoops. For some reason when I posted I thought that Benson was graduating next season. In that case, Young should definitely redshirt.
Yeah, if Benson stays all four years, the 2004 season will be his last. Reshirting would be the smartest option.
Texas also landed Albert Hardy from Galena Park. A physical specimen to say the least. Selvin Young was a huge surprise. I think Vincent could play wr if he wanted, but he's best at QB.
Props to Kam. I don't know anyone else who called Selvin a great running back. BTW, Reggie looks like a player. I still think Vince will be every bit as good as Reggie over the long haul.
Actually, I think VY can throw deep as well, if not better than Simms. What's scary is that VY can throw pretty damn far right now, once he learns to move into his passes, then he will have one of the top 3 or so arms in all of college football. The 2 times I saw him in person last year, he threw 60-65 yard passes off the back of his heels, when under pressure. I don't really know how comfortable he is with passing in the pocket. That is something he will need to get adapted to.
I went to the same high school as him. I've seen him up close. I was filming a game, and we were near the goal line, and it was a pitch to the right to Selvin, and they ran it all the way to the corner, and they fell right infront of us. Yes, damnit, we scored.
Many had said he was OU bound (thank God he isn't there). I guess they assumed since Ced was there he wouldn't go. He also held his cards close to the vest.
I've heard Vincent Young on the scout team gives the Texas defense fits. They use him when their opposing team has a mobile QB. Honestly I think next year Young maybe the key to UT beating Oklahoma. Its already been proven that athletic, mobile QB's give the OU defense all they can handle. Look at what McNeal did. The QB at Missouri put it on them too.
Are you kidding me? The guy has a cannon for an arm. I watched him play in about 7 games his senior year. I can only imagine the strength he'll have after a year or two on a good weight program.
That is 100% false. The only competition in the final weeks of recruiting was Miami. He said that he would have gone to Miami, but they never called him. FA is right in this argument, no doubt. Not only can he get the ball down field, he can do it on the run across hi body (as done multiple times in the playoffs last year)
I'm sure they both have strong arms. And you gotta remember, I posted this a year ago. I meant pure strength, not accuracy in a long distance throw. With regards to Selvin: he may have wanted to goto Miami, and I don't blame him. But, I do remember him saying "Texas kids should stay in Texas."
You forgot to include the perhaps the best mobile quarterback in America, Seneca Wallace, in your mobile quarterback theory about OU. ISU scored 3 points. In the entire game. It makes me chuckle reading about how great Vince Young was in high school and trying to compare that to the college level. He will still be an inexperienced freshman when he plays OU next year, assuming he beats out Mock for the starting role by that game. This Vince Young hype has the same feel to me as the Yao Ming hype did. I cheer for UT heartily (although I'm a Rice alumnus), but I hate to jump to the conclusion that Young can walk on water.
I'm from Lufkin, and saw Reggie play a few times, but to be honest... I'm not sure about the hype. Reggie has a sensational arm, fantastic speed, and good instincts. But he has real accuracy problems, and I think he might be a better athlete than a QB. When you watched him, sometimes he'd look relatively normal for a long stretch... then he'd make gamebreaking plays that pulled Lufkin through in the end. I'm not sure that's going to work at the collegiate level. Sure, it's possible that he'll be coached so that the "moments of greatness" become the norm. But it's also possible that his lack of a good midrange game and accuracy will render him a Ronald Curry, rather than a Michael Vick. The jury's out on McNeal, though I hope he does well. He's a decent kid with a really nice family... and he certainly had a fabulous debut.
Saw him play last year in the dome, he is amazing but dont expect him to be michael vick like alot of texas fans. Vick is a player that comes about once every 20 years. Most experts say hes the most talented player to come in the league since elway. ut and atm fans you both have great young qbs coming up but just dont compare them to vick. if you do you obviously didnt watch to many va tech games.
Iowa State dosent have the playmaking recievers that Missouri (Justin Gage) and A&M(Terrance Murphy and Bethel Johnson) have. It helps to have a supporting cast when you play a team like OU. Wallace couldnt do it by himself.
