With his recent retirement and limitless experience, Hakeem Olajuwon should become Yao Ming's personal tutor. I think both parties would benefit greatly from this relationship--Hakeem would still be involved with the Rockets and have an opportunity to smooth over what happened when he left for Toronto, and Yao Ming is a fellow foreigner that has a lot to learn from Hakeem. They are both hard-working and soft spoken, and Yao Ming's improvement would be greatly enhanced by this relationship.
That'd be great, but do you think they would ever be able to speak to each other? Neither seems to be very good at english.
Pete Newell said he wants to teach Yao. "Pete Newell Big Man Camp" http://petenewellbigmancamp.net/ http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/story.hts/sports/bk/bkn/1655697
I think they should send Yao to Pete Newell for private lessons until the All-star break. Newell could really build Yao's confidence and then he could come back for the playoffs. Right now it doesn't sound like he is getting enough personal attention.
That is actually a good idea. However, I think the Rockets would prefer that Yao learn the ins and outs of the team, as well as adapting to American culture. Isn't the camp out in Hawaii? Also, do they even hold camps during the regular season?
If we decided to send him to the camp, wouldn't we have to get authorization from the Chinese government? I guess we could get them to sign a permission slip...you know like the ones your Mom had to sign before the school would let you get on the bus.
aren't there about five of these threads on the second page. couldn't newbies at least look that far before posting. pretty please.
WOW. what an original idea. do you think anyone at the ROckets organization has thought of this yet? jason 0215, you better get on the horn before someone stelas your idea! wow.
``I've seen him for a long time, and I've learned a lot of things from watching him,'' Yao said. ``I knew this day would come, and I'm sorry that it has. I hope he can come to Houston and become a coach and teach me more.'' http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news/ap/20021110/ap-olajuwon-retirement.html
Olajuwon is a talented wise person. I am sure he has greater ambitions in life then to be a personal coach. he's spent more then half his life with basketball, I think he wants to move on and do other things.
Personally, I think Hakeem is the Anti-Clyde. I wouldnt be suprised if he played worked with Ming in an informal environment during the offseason a la Westside. However, i doubt he would take an official position with the team to do soor anything like that. After listening to Hakeem speak at halftime the other time, I really feel we wont hear much from Dream as time passes.
