The only reason I stuck with T-Mobile was because they gave me two MyTouch 4g's for $50 because of some loyalty crap. I would have easily switched to Verizon otherwise. But yeah, even on the 4G they have this crap where they don't even label if you are getting 3G or 4G. It just says H for both. I guess that's the manufacturer's fault... but still. Damn T-Mobile.
I feel your pain OP I signed up with Tmobile back in 2002'ish and have been with them ever since. Any time I have ever needed an issue resolved, they ALWAYS went out of their way to help me. And after I got off the phone with the rep, they always thanked me for being a loyal customer. I got a pretty sweet deal going on for my minutes and data usage, but when I got the GOOD data plan for when the G1 came out, I made the mistake of not getting the unlimited text plan. At the time the unlimited txt/data (true unlimited, no throttled crap) it was only 5 dollars more, but I never texted so I didnt want it. I went with the 500 txt plan instead. Now, I text a lot more and it had ended up costing me. I called over and tried to see what they can do to help me out like they have always done before. This time I was not so much upset, just disappointed in the way the situation was handled. First, it was some asian lady who clearly did not speak English well, and when asking about their unlimited text data plans they only offered unlimited texts for 15 bucks more over the already 30 dollar a month data. I pay 20 bucks a month for unlimited data (true unlimited, non throttled) and 500 texts. They wanted me to switch over to throttled (2gb) data for 30 bucks a month, plus an additional 15 for unlimited texts. 45 dollars a month on top of my 50 dollar a month plan. To top it off, they said i would have to sign a new 2 year agreement. I was polite with the lady, explained my situation, and past situations and did it in a professional manner and got NOTHING. This company has truly lost its way. It disappoints me so much to see such a once wonderful, helpful company has turned into another corporate mongul who expects people to be their slave. I guess this is just the way it is now. I dont know if this has anything to do with AT&T or what, but there is a difference overall among the company Needless to say, I am in the market for a new cell company. This AT&T stuff scares me, and I want nothing to do with that company.
I'm no fan of AT&T, but it probably is a little too early to start blaming them for something happening at T-Mobile, considering the merger hasn't gone through yet. Soon enough, probably, but not yet....
AT&T has no control of T-Mobile right now... just saying. Until the deal gets approved by the FCC, AT&T can't touch anything with T-Mobile. So I don't really understand the blaming.
For those of you looking to leave T-Mobile but only stay due to the price, you should consider Virgin Mobile. They use the old 1900MHZ PCS Sprint Network, which isn't great but should be better than T-Mobile's current footprint. However they will throttle you after 2gb of data now.
Such a shame Sprint is the only one if you want a truly unlimited plan because I'm not a fan of CDMA and Sprint's coverage is just as bad as Tmo. Oh well, Galaxy SII (or my consolation prize the EVO 3D) here I come. Can't wait to also add my 22% employee discount.
AT&T's coverage is bad. They have too many dead spots, and the internet goes down a lot. I've never had a problem with T-Mobile. I'm not sure after the merger, but T-Mobile may not be as good.
I've been with T-Mobile for years and I'm not sure where to go moving forward. I've been on a month to month plan and I've wanted to upgrade and every time I see that they have some kind of bad ass free phone deal it never applies to current customers. I had called to see if they could make an exception or something and was willing to finally get a contract but they offer the lower end crap like the Dart. Anyways, I'll wait to see what new phones come out now that they are coming with dual cores. Most likely I'll be jumping into a family plan with my brother or sister.
I've considered this, but I would have to get a new phone, I'd probably go with the LG Optimus... seems like the best of the bunch.
been a customer for 10 years. They have excellent loyalty customer service, IMO. I have no complaints about their service except for one dead spot in downtown. I'm dreading the switch to ATT.
T-Mobile did a really bad bait and switch on us. We also have been T-mobile customer for an extended period of time (around 7 years now). The last time we renewed our contracts the rest of my family had picked up their phones, but I personally held out and opted to not take advantage of that until I found something I like. The issue is that, if you want any type of phone that isn't a complete P.O.S., they force a data contract down your throat. Something I don't need at all since I have wi-fi 98% of the time. Regardless, they had some top of the line phone come out and I remember being super excited because on the website for that particular phone it did not mention at all anything about a data contract (knew where to look as I had been looking at which do and don't for a month) Regardless to say, they billed us for a data plan even though online there was no mention of the agreement. I had a screen shot. Argued for months, harassed. Reached a point where we were going to litigation and they finally gave up. This is only one incident of the many we had in renewing our contract this past time. Needless to say, we were essentially treated like crap after being loyal customers for all these years and will not be renewing our contracts after this one is up. Do yourself a favor and stay away.
Oh and the running joke on UT campus is that it is called T-Maybe. As you will maybe get service on any given day. Its horrible, complete dead spots everywhere
Every smartphone from ATT, TMobile, Sprint, and Verizon require a data service plan which is useful for things like checking email on the go, and having a navigation system on the road. T-Mobile actually has the cheapest data service plans. I want to stay away from them because of the AT&T merger, but I'm not sure at this point.
I think Sprint is the only major carrier that remotely cares about customer service if only because they're making an effort to clean their bad rep for the last 10 years. I bought a broadband card from verizon only to return it a few days later. Their response was to take on an ETF fee, restocking fee for the card, and also the first months fee. Even after taking an hour to resolve the issue, they're charging me 8 bucks for the 2 days I used it. Not really customer friendly. I've also learned that negotiation doesn't work for ATT. It's their way or the highway.
This smart phone did not. Initially at least. It was clearly visible and I have a screen shot of it on my old laptop where it states what contractual agreements were required for that particular phone. This was not an error in judgement on my end, trust me on that. I am a current smart phone user, and use all of the said above services you mentioned without any data plan. Sans the navigation system on the road which is not a big deal since I have my own-in car navi
