The Wild Bunch is my favorite movie of all. It won't upset me that they're trying to remake a Peckinpah movie because a.) they've done it before with movies like the Getaway (and I think there's another movie called the Wild Bunch but it may not be a remake); and b.) no one that was a part of the original production will be involved. There's no way for a crappy remake to in any way reflect on the original, unless there are actors or directors who were a part of the original still in the next movie. Case in point: Indiana Jones 4, which took a giant crap on Marion and the entire Indiana Jones series.

Jump in the fridge Indy! That'll work, yea.

You go to hell George Lucas.

Oh and since this thread's about Bladerunner, I think people need to get off their high horse when considering this movie's legacy. It was a perfect storm at the time, with Harrison Ford being a huge star, Philip Dick on his deathbed but still there to at least leave some feedback for Ridley Scott, and the 80's producing one of the most memorable atmosphere's you could ever think up for a sci-fi movie.

The story itself though is vastly different than the book, the themes are all different, and if you ask me personally the book has much more depth to it and makes the movie feel like a superficial homage at best. Thankfully I watched the movie first, so I still like it, but this whole question about whether or not Deckard is a replicant should be the last thing on fans' minds. I'm of the mind that this was more of the exception to the rule for Ridley Scott; his other good movies like Alien and Gladiator were good for entirely different reasons, and much more similar to his bad movies and why they were bad (think Robin Hood) than they are to Bladerunner.

I do not like the idea. They will mess it up, when has a remake ever been better than the original?

I remember playing the Pc game Blade runner, that was an amazing game. One of the first games with multiple endings.

Hollywood will eventually remake every classic, and the Philistine public will eagerly consume all of it. We truly do get the culture that we deserve.

I think we have all gotten too jaded due to the Star Wars prequels and Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull. Ridley Scott isn't George Lucas and while he might not match Blade Runner I have hope he will make a pretty good movie.

The opening scene, unfortunately no embed. I remember showing this to my architecture history class I was teaching class to talk about Modernist architecture.

Also forgot the timeline was so recent. According to Blade Runner's timeline replicants should exist (I'm looking at you Deckard), flying cars should be the norm and we should have off world colonies.

They also had Deckard grabbing a news paper when he was getting a bowl of noodles. Shouldn't he have been getting the news off of an Ipad?

It's the bane of science fiction since time out of mind, judo. I remember reading SF in the 1950's where the "hero" is frantically calculating a targeting solution with his slide rule, a computer considered far too large to put in a space ship, those being regulated to entire buildings on Earth, the more powerful they are, the more gigantic the size, something that was the case in "real life" at the time.

As for the flick, I certainly hope it's good, I hope it is entertaining, and I hope it doesn't crap all over Dick's work, and the original Scott film, but remakes, prequels, and sequels of great films rarely turn out to be a good idea. Sure, there are a few exceptions, Godfather II being the most obvious. Nearer to this idea of Ridley Scott's, Aliens wasn't bad, but in my opinion, it couldn't touch Alien for originality, acting, atmosphere, the cast, and something I particularly liked, the gritty portrayal of a transport ship in the future, their crew, the interactions between them all. Scott is a bit of an enigma. He can create brilliantly imagined, original films, getting career best performances from his actors, and then turn around and crank out an over the top money maker with a fraction of the qualities his few great films possess. Go figure.

They must. If you don't know how Blade Runner ends by now, you probably never will unless someone tells you.

I can see it now...Shia LeBeouff to take over as Harrison Ford's character in the prequel (assuming he is not a replicant). ;)

Yeah stuff like that happens all the time in Sci-Fi. For instance according to Star Trek's timeline in the late 90's we should've been fighting the genocidal Eugenics war against Khan (KKKKKKHHHHAAAAAANNNN!) and Colonel Green. Instead the biggest news was the President getting impeached over a Hummer in the White House, I bet Gene Roddenbury didn't seen that coming.

Its also funny to note how much Sci-Fi has missed the information and miniturization revolution. Most of Sci-Fi from prior to the 1990's has looked at technological advancement in big technologies such as space ships, space stations, clones, phasers and such. Only a few foresaw micro-computers, cell phones, and the Internet. As the Real Shady noted Blade Runner set in this decade has flying cars, space colonies and replicants yet Deckard is still reading a newspaper.

Arthur C. Clarke has addressed the problems with the timeline by reserving the right to retcon his stories to match reality. So in the later 2001 sequels the Discovery mission actually isn't in 2001.

As soon as Sean Young (in the pic above) gets out of Celebrity Rehab (on TV), she will be ready to shoot the sequel with Harrison. She is such a mean drunk you-know-what. Did anyone remember her at some awards show a year or two back yelling at the guy on stage to "get off already" because he had just won an award and was a little slow to step up to give his acceptance speech. He ended up yelling at her from the podium right back. lol. She was hot in "No Way Out", though.

    Some more info on this project;

By Garth Franklin Friday August 19th 2011 10:11AM

Yesterday's announcement of Ridley Scott returning to the world of "Blade Runner" which he created pretty much floored everyone with its unexpectedness. Now 24 Frames has done a feature piece explaining how Scott was brought back into the fold. In the process, they've revealed some new story details and a potential production schedule.

Alcon Entertainment landed the rights to the property earlier this year and were desperately keen on landing Scott for the film. Producers Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson had a sit down meeting with Scott in London earlier this year where "they hashed out how a new film would look, how it could avoid seeming too similar to the many movies that have since paid homage to the original, and how different the new film should be from the original itself. They eventually decided it should stand as separately as possible."

Scott struck a handshake deal with the pair, Kosove saying "I believe he sees an opportunity to create something that’s wholly original from the first 'Blade Runner.'" A few months later, after all the legals and contracts have been sorted out, here we are. Scott is now expected to meet with writers which he and the producers will have to agree on, a hiring that could happen as early as in the next few weeks.

It's expected the earliest that shooting could start is the beginning of 2013 which would mean a 2014 cinematic release at the earliest. Scott, who recently finished editing "Prometheus," could direct one of several other films in development before jumping back into the "Blade Runner" world.

Asked about the skepticism over the announcement, Kosove says "Everything Ridley does as a filmmaker is fresh… with Ridley coming back there's a greater level of comfort. And once we have the writer, I think fans will feel even more comfortable. We want people to know that we're very serious about doing this in an artistic way. This isn't just commercial fodder."

Kosove also says don't expect Harrison Ford or his Rick Deckard character to show up - "If you're asking me will this movie have anything to do with Harrison Ford, the answer is no. This is a total reinvention, and in my mind that means doing everything fresh, including casting."

You don't know what the hell you are talking about. The guy is still the best visual director around. Even his bad movies is still way better than most movies out there.

This is an awesome news. I'm pretty sure they will be using the real props and less CGI(like they did with the original BR) exactly like what they are doing with Prometheus. I'm so happy he's bad to Sci-Fi but I was hoping he would tackle something new like The Forever War. James Cameron must have ignite some fire back into Ridley Scott because he seems to be back in his old form since Blade Runner and Alien. Prometheus is my most anticipated movie for next year and it's a great year for movie fans.
