I know rich people that are great and rich people that are jerks. I know poor people that are great and poor people that are jerks. I know middle class people who are great and middle class people who are jerks. It is impossible for me to answer the question as to which one is "better".

I was thinking the same thing when I cast my vote and I was the only one to pick the wealthy guy at the time.

why does one have to be better?

what is the rating based on?
    financial success?
    luckiness?
    family?
    friends?
    situation?
    birth place?

certainly anyone can overcome any situation. i truly believe that in this country, ANYONE is capable of becoming financially and mentally successful. meaning anyone can make money and you can pretty much do whatever it is that makes you mentally, emotionally, happy.

some are just better inclined because they have the some qualities and situations that are similar to those listed above. they may have ran into the right person, or been born with money and had people hand them things for life, but i dont think that harms the disadvantaged.

people are people, and some have had things go right, others have gonethrough hard times. is a rich person who ****s cows and kicks babies a better person than a homeless man who got hit by a bus and has no insurance just because of his financial value? it's much deeper than that, and therefore i think the poll is lacking to say the least, it traps the reader into providing an answer which does not really do justice to their true feelings. giving them the option that they do not have the information is not suitable either. i feel i have the information to provide an answer, however that's not an available option...

Seriously, what does 'better person' mean? lol

Logically, we're never going to come to a universally accepted definition of 'better person' so there's no real value in the answers to these questions. There are literally people who believe Osama Bin Laden is going to Heaven and Mother Teresa is going to hell. With such varying opinions about what makes a person 'better', I wonder if this discussion is worth having at all.

In my world, there's no correlation between a person's finances and how they score on my ethical/moral compass.

Why can't we have a star rating system in this forum?

I voted the poor person is probably a better person. For me it was a numbers game. There are bad people in all walks of life, but because there are more poor people than rich, odds are there are more good people that are poor. I'm a gambler.

The only thing that you can say about rich people is that they tend to lead better and take more initiative.

That makes no sense, more poor people would imply both there are more good poor and bad poor people. Either way it's the same odds.

True leaders are really few and far between. Status and power are not leadership and just because people defer to someone who has status and power does not mean they think of that person as someone they would willingly follow. Also, it's easier to take more initiative when you know if you fail you still have a warm meal, a good bed, health insurance, and a Lexus.

The term "better" is merely a subjective one.

    Worthless thread is worthless.

The responses in this thread might reflect a particular American view where we don't regard wealth as being a character trait.

I would be curious to see if the same question posed to people from other cultures.
