About a hundred dollar price difference. Only plan on playing a lot of xbox and watching tv, sports as well.

Anybody know the big difference between 120 and 60hz?

Everything. I bought a 60Hz TV for a ****ton a few years ago and immediately regretted it. The 120Hz freqeuncy is what makes everything appear so fluid.

The demo that fry's has a the beginning of their store is a great example. The fluidity of movement is like you are watching something in fast forward 1.5x, but you're really not. I would have to say it is easily the most noticeable thing on a T.V. You can immediately tell whether a TV has it or not.

Without a doubt, go 120Hz or you'll regret it big time

The 120hz helps, but it can also have some weird effects. you can probably customize the motion settings, if you set it too high, your movies might look like handy cam videos not movies.

this is usually the dejudder function.

read up on the response time too, if you play video games you want lower ms.

    120hz is definitely worth it.

The answer to your question is: Get a plasma, that way Hz and motion effects aren't an issue.

    Or go with the 120Hz...

120 is just a bells & whistles feature meant to dazzle the casual TV watcher. No director intended for their film to be rendered in such a manner. It just looks weird. Unnatural. People who like 120 probably leave their TV on the "dynamic" setting.

This is what I felt. When we visited Houston last month, my aunt had a TV with this and it was a weird effect from what I saw. Maybe it is because I am used to my 60mHz but something just didn't seem right.

That tv probably had something like "Auto Motion Plus" that some Samsungs have. It's a gimmick and is completely different from 120Hz, but it was marketed together with 120Hz, so it confuses people.

Basically, the Auto Motion Plus gives you that Soap Opera effect. It looks weird and crappy. I have it on my tv, but I turn it off. But I still get the 120Hz.

Screw 60 and 120. Save up and get a 240. My friend (I thought) got hoodwinked into buying a 240hz from a salesman and I was immediately skeptical. But when I came over and saw it...

    WOW

Made me start at my brand new 60hz TV in anger:mad:

I'll give my standard answer, go with a panasonic viera. They are the best hands down in my opinion.

I recently got this 42 inch TV exclusively for my gaming and Sim racing build. Panasonic TC-L42D30.

Superb build quality ISP panel with very low input lag (critical for gaming).

I wouldn't worry too much about 60hz vs 120Hz. 120Hz processing can introduce input lag and can also produce artifacts. I hate the soap opera artificial look.

For my computer gaming I use 32 inch LG 32LD450. Another ISP panel which is excellent for gaming. You have to play the lottery game to get the ISP panel but if you do end up getting once, its fantastic.

Stay away from Samsung if you plan on using it for gaming. Samsung TVs are well known for high input lag.

Which models are you talking about, how big is the price difference?

Samsungs are good tvs, though like someone mentioned they have had some input lag (gaming) issues, depending on the model.

The 120hz is going to make a difference when it comes to games and sports, but like was also mentioned the 'soap opera' effect has more to do with a specific 'feature' of the 120hz TVs, not really the 120hz itself.

If you are a gamer get the 120hz, it's the refresh rate. A screen that size and gaming on it you would need a higher refresh rate.

Buy a plasma. Unless you like the soap opera effect the 120's give you
