By big kids I mean the 20 or younger players that make their living as big men. I came up with this idea because I was so hard on Eddie Griffin last week (primarily about his rebounding and shot selection). My expectations are so high for him that I expect much more from him than a normal 20-year-old Power Forward. It is probably unfair and my exceptions are probably too high but I really do believe that he has the talent to be special. In any event I decided to track all of the Big Kids to see how Eddie stacks up. He is performing very favorably when compared to the other 20 and younger forwards and centers. I plan on keeping up with the progress of these players through out the season from time to time just to see where Eddie stands. Personally I am less concerned about PPG and more concerned about FG%, RPG and BPG for Eddie because I think that is where he should really separate himself from most of the other Big Kids. Any way it should be fun to keep up with all of them because this is basically a list of the NBA’s post players for the next 15 years or so in the NBA minus a few like Pau Gasol or Darius Miles. I also believe that there will be some legitimate super stars come out of this group. If I am missing anyone then just let me know and I will add him to the list and we can keep track of him also. Good job, Crash. Everybody is raving about Brown. Yet his statline is only slightly better than Griffin. Stoutemire's fg% is horrible. I thought he's just a dunker. How can you miss 2/3 of your dunks?
I think this is a much better idea than your last big thread about Eddie. Of course it will not get as many hits, or posts, but I like it better already.
Interesting thread! I look forward to following this group of young men. Thanks for posting up the info! Chris
Griffin HAS to realize that he needs higher percentage shots and that it's OK to pass it after you get it IF it's not a high percentage shot. If our BIG men aren't scoring in high percentages, than who will? We can't count on Francis to keep this up all year. Francis will dominate the Golden State game, no doubt. But I'd like to see him have a terrible shooting game the next game so that we can see how him and especially his teammates will react.
Sane, You made a fabulous point about Francis having a bad shooting game. Hes shooting 50% so far this year, with Mobley not far behind, but there are going to be nights where they dont shoot like they have been so far this season. What happens then? At some point, they are going to have to start trusting their teamates even if one of them is 3-11, just like their teamtes would trust them even if they went 8-23.
Griffin's stats are skewed. Most of his offensive stats came last game. Projected out he would look much better. No way he shoots as bad as he did the first few games.
crash - I know that must have been a lot of work. Would it be too much to ask that you update this thread about game 20 or so? Thx.
Gator, I was thinking about updating it every few games or so just so people could see the trend that is happening with all of the players on the list. For instance if I had started this list on day 1 we would see that Brown is on a downward trend while both Griffin and Stoudamire are on an upward trend. I don't know who will finish the season the strongest but I do expect Eddie to get stronger as the season progresses. BTW I fully admit that it is hard to get a good read on a player in only a few games because one really bad game or one really good game can distort the facts.
crash - EG was the main reason for the request. I'm hoping he gets enough stats and respect to get into the Rookies vs Sophs game at the All Star break. And of course, the playoffs!
I agree with you. I could easily see a game with Pau, Eddie and Jefferson vs. Amare, Gooden and Butler.
Hey Crash, maybe you could graph the stats on a week by week basis. That would better illustrate the changes you're speaking of.
Let's hope Yao improves enough and there is not the need for ballot stuffing to the point of enbarrassment. However, if it is the Rooks/Sophs there could be a Gasol and Griffin vs Yao and Gooden matchup at some point during the game. An interesting flip flop for the Rox and Grizz.
Hey great job with this post. I wonder who will end up being the best player on this list. It would only be a guess showing how young these guys are, but I would bet that Griffin may not end up being the best but he will probably be in the top 2 or 3. Just want to say again great post.
I am installing the first update. Not much has changed in only one game but I wanted to do it anyway. The updated stats are in the 1st post and the stats from yesterday will be in this post. That is the way I will continue to do it. The most up to date stats will always be in the 1st post and I will always place the previous set of stats in the last post. The latest update to this thread has once again been placed in the first post. Kwame Brown is in a definite downward trend while Eddie Griffin just seems to be getting stronger as the season progresses. Both Nene Hillario and Amare Stoudemire are also on an upward trend. I am looking forward to Eddie going against Amare tonight. I think you messed up on Kwame Brown's minutes and did that cause his other numbers to be so distorted? He seems to be playing great ball from what I see.
