Great News for the MLS and USNT. http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2011/08/10/mls-nbc-sports-agree-three-year-broadcast-deal <iframe width="560" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/oo6qCO7JDBY" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I like soccer when I have a team and players to root for. But I haven't had the time to understand or follow all the Euro/international leagues, and the MLS just hasn't hit the radar yet. Hopefully this will help.
This is a great step in the right direction. I know that MLS isnt great, but I still support it. I want quality soccer in the US damn it!
Former soccer hater here..... It's just another entertainment option. It's not displacing the NFL, NBA, MLB or College Football. Dynamo game day atmosphere is very good at Robertson and I expect that in the new stadium it will be a close second to Reliant on a Sunday (albeit on a smaller scale.) It is fun when the USNT can beat countries that live for soccer, I'd like to see the US become a soccer powerhouse (though in fairness if there was a full-contact tiddly-winks league I would want the US to do well there to). Ties, and constant references to "keeping your shape" and "the beautiful game" turned me off for a while. But now I actually sort of understand the offside rule and even know the names of a half dozen EPL clubs. I don't watch the UFC, but I am glad it's around for the people that like it. No real reason to hate on soccer, if you don't like it don't watch.
Get a tattoo of the Rockets Dildo logo on your face and post it here, then your loyalty will be unquestioned.
Remember the old XFL? I kid. I would have preferred ABC or FOX to have the MLS games on national TV, like ABC has a few playoff games and the championship. v3.0, where should someone post this, then...? Tell us, oh, great master of I-know-what's-good-for-everyone...
Great news for the MLS. Any added exposure is good for the league. For NBC, this is like putting $100 down on a 100/1 underdog at the race track. If MLS blows up, they get their money back many times over. If it doesn't get any more popular than it already is, they didn't lose too much as this rights deal is significantly cheaper than most.
I'm totally down with this. If this helps expand the MLS product, than it is a good thing. More people get Versus than FSC. And with it being called NBC Sports, I think people will give it some more respect. Take a look at the NHL. ESPN didn't want any part of it, and now Versus reupped with the NHL with a favorable deal for the NHL. This is good for the MLS. You could potentially have an MLS game on a fall Saturday followed by some Pac12 football. If you happen to have a game on NBC you could have it follow a Notre Dame game. That would be a wonderful lead in for the MLS. More importantly. It's all about the World Cup. oh and john tesh. Woot.
