I don't know if you guys have seen ESPN.com (INSIDERS) list of their top 10 candidates for the MVP. Top 10 Candidates for MVP The following is a list of the candidates. Tracy McGrady, Orlando Magic Kobe Bryant, Los Angeles Lakers Gary Payton, Seattle Sonics Jason Kidd, New Jersey Nets Steve Francis, Houston Rockets Numbers: 30.3 ppg, 10 rpg, 5.8 apg, 0.7 spg, 1 bpg, 50% field, 83% line, 44% three Beef: Point guards aren't supposed to average double-digit rebounds per game. Guys who score 30 points per game aren't supposed to lead their teams in assists. Six-foot-2 basketball players aren't supposed to make you forget about 7-foot-6 ones, either. Glenn Robinson, Atlanta Hawks Tim Duncan, San Antonio Spurs Kevin Garnett, Minnesota Timberwolves Allen Iverson, Philadelphia 76ers I apologize if this has been posted already. I have to agree with them I guess!
Thanks for the post....It seems like these guys are a little early to be even thinking about MVP .I guess they are just saying GUYS TO WATCH.!!!!!
Well, there's only 9 on that list, so I'm guessing Shaq is the tenth that didn't even need to be mentioned. If not, there is something wrong with it. I agree, it is a little early to consider G.Robinson on that list. One guy that I think might be a candidate by the end of the year is Jermaine O'neal.
Yea riiight...everyone in the country loves Stevie Francis (STARTING All-Star PG) he brings sooo much more to the table than Glenn Robinson...rebounds, assists, heart. Take Francis off the ROckets what do u get?...(heh we should know from last year)...take Robinson off the Hawks??..no one gives a crap
no, its more that kids like Steve. Who votes on all star games? Mostly teenagers and young kids via the internet or at ball games. WIth Steve's playing style, he's naturally going to be popular (explosive, scoring point guard)... but the MVP voters, adults with decades of NBA knowledge, probably don't see Francis in the same light as Rockets fans... err, should I say fans with tinted glasses. He's a great player, but I don't quite think he's MVP material until the Rockets make a deep run into the playoffs.
drapg, That top 10 MVP candidates was made by analysts, not fans. Francis much more appreciated outside Houston than here. He's starting to be mentioned in the same breath as aul Pierce and Vince Carter. Once he leads his teams in points and assists during the media filled 2002/2003 season, goes to the playoffs, and makes the All Star game again, then his career will skyrocket.
