Makes sense. We're already converting two rush ends to OLB. We need a big 3-4 end and a vet 3-4 OLB for depth.
i'm guessing they want flexibility to make moves and additions once there are cuts later in preseason
I heard on the radio during lunch that Denver was planning on switching from the 3-4 to the 4-3 defense. That seems like an odd decision considering Dumerville seems solely suited to the 3-4 LB and it felt like they drafted Von Miller just so he could be opposite Dumerville and wreak havoc on opposing QBs. Would it make sense to propose a trade of Mario for Dumerville right now? Seems like it would make sense for both parties plus it would mean trading with Denver which I'm sure Kubiak gets an erection over.
Yeah, Anderson played DE last year and would've switched to OLB if he had stayed. I thought he would have been a good back up for Mario.
I would do a Mario for Von Miller trade. But other than that, why wouldn't you just wait and see what Mario can do in the 3-4?
I believe the roster is currently at 88 players. They can add two more before cuts have to begin. They might be keeping those two spots open to snag anybody they're interested in that gets cut from other teams.

That'd be wierd if Denver changed their defense like that. Is there a rule in the NFL about matching salaries like the NBA, or does it not matter as long as you have the cap space?
Because Dumerville has already proven that, when healthy, he's a dominant 3-4 outside LB. Mario has proven that, when healthy, he's very often a dominant 4-3 DE. But neither has proven anything in the other defensive scheme, and it seems unlikely that either one would end up being better than the other at their new 3-4/4-3 scheme, if that makes sense. In other words, I doubt Mario will be getting more sacks than Dumerville as an outside LB in the 3-4, and I doubt Dumerville will be better than Mario as a DE in the 4-3.
Salaries only have to match in the NBA if teams are over the cap. With the NFL having a hard cap, I'd assume that you can do whatever you want (like trade a big contract for draft picks) so long as it doesn't put one team over the cap.
I honestly don't know but did Dumerville only have one great season? And isn't he coming off a season ending injury? Sometimes guys are never the same but then again I could be wrong because if memory serves me right it was a pectoral muscle?

Elvis Dumervil 2006 - 8.5 sacks 2007 - 12.5 sacks 2008 - 5 sacks (not sure if injured this year or not) 2009 - 17 sacks 2010 - Injured So only one season of questionable output when he was healthy. I agree that his health is a question mark, and if the team would hold back because of that, I understand. I'm just wondering if it is a move that makes sense if they can convince themselves that he will be healthy again.
He has had three pretty impressive seasons. I feel like Mario could put up big numbers as he will have more chances to rush the quarterback and better opportunities to get their with the offensive line not knowing who will rush. I think it's an interesting trade proposal especially if Mario has a down year and does not want to return to Houston. If he has a big year, then we will have to pay huge money to him and possibly lose out on Foster. Tough desicions ahead for our front office.
I love watching anchors who know NOTHING about sports try to pretend like they do as they mindlessly read the words from the teleprompter. I'd like to hear someone say something like "well, we're going to have to prove them wrong this year, aren't we..." Instead of being so defensive about it and then blowing it off, I wish they would use it as motivation for the entire year. If I were Kubiak, I would reference that report every week.
Elvis actually started with a 4-3 with the Broncos. They were a 4-3 before McD came in, and Elvis put up 21 sacks total in his first two seasons starting on the line.
Yeah, it actually kind of bothers me that our local media and the players have made such a big deal out of the allegation of one single national media pundit. They should have just all collectively replied with "what does HE know?" and then been done with it. Instead it is almost increasing the effect of what he said because so many players are dignifying the guy with a response.
Ah, nevermind then. I thought Elvis was actually a pretty small guy whose speed off the edge worked great as a OLB in the 3-4 but would get pushed around a bit in a 4-3...but I suppose Freeney has the same issue and he manages to work it out.
Its not just one single media pundit, The word "soft" has been used to describe the Texans for a few seasons now. You shed the label by winning. I agree it sucks that our players have to verbally defend themselves, but until we start winning...itll just be a label that well have to discredit
