    FFXII, Dragon Age Origins

    For PC

A game that seems like it's MMORPG but is completely single player.

But my crap laptop must be able to run it, it is a HP G60.

Suggestions for PSX or Dreamcast games or whatever are fine as long as I can run it.

Neverwinter Nights 1 & 2. The granddaddy of modern Bioware RPGs. The first one was a great game but it hasn't aged that well graphically.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 1 & 2.
I know more people are familiar with this franchise than NWN but, gameplay-wise, it's a much watered down NWN. The second one had A LOT of cut content though there's a fan project to restore much of it.

I have finished both KOTOR games (2 was worse than 1 and felt very rushed, why is that?)

Neverwinter I have researched about these games and it seems I have to download many expansions to completely enjoy the game? Also read that they are very buggy.

Great suggestions though, they are exactly the kind of games I was looking for.

In case anyone mentions Baldur's Gate 1 or 2, I have also researched that and I don't know if I could stand that type of outdated graphics. It looks terrible.

The same case for Planetscape Torment.

KOTOR2 was rushed because LucasArts wanted it out by the holidays. There's a fan project to restore the cut content, though - look it up.

I only played NWN 1 by Bioware. I can't really remember any game breaking bug, nor encountering a lot, for it. I enjoyed NWN and its two expansions a lot more than I had bug trouble.

You can play vanilla NWN but the expansions have the good meat of the series - prestige classes, better campaigns, updated models etc. That said, the original campaign is long and the expansion campaigns, combined are even longer so there's a lot of content to trudge through. And the cherry on the top is the abundance of fan content after. The original NWN was made with the really ambitious goal of providing a software version of the traditional pen and paper RPG so they included the development kit in the retail package. I enjoyed a lot of great fan made modules, myself, though most of them require the complete set of expansions. It's not that much though - 3 CDs for the original, plus 1 for each expansion.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is coming out in a few months.

You can always go back and play Oblivion if you never have.

Baldur's Gate 2 is my favourite game of all time. Despite the graphics it's still worth a look if you can get it for cheap. I haven't played it in ages but since all the backgrounds are hand painted it might not have aged as poorly as old 3D games. Its gameplay is very similar to Dragon Age Origins but I'd rate it as an ever better game.

The first KOTOR was made by Bioware, the second by Obsidian.

I played the first one when it game out and was somewhat disappointed because my expectations were sky high after Baldurs Gate 2. NW2...that really bored me for some reason (again the sequel was done by Obsidian).

You mentioned Dragon Age Origins but not Dragon Age 2. You are aware there's a sequel right? It felt really rushed but I enjoyed it. Others will probably tell you to stay away. Then there's Mass Effect 1 and 2, which are very similar to KOTOR so if you enjoyed those Star Wars games you'll most likely enjoy the Mass Effect series too.

    You might also enjoy some single player open world RPGs. These games are not party based; you only control one character but the scope of the game is massive. There are huge worlds for you to explore and a ton of quests to undertake. Examples are;

    • Morrowind
    • Oblivion (I only enjoyed this after heavily modding it)
    • Fallout 3
    • Fallout: New Vegas

Finally theres The Witcher series. Not party based and doesn't have an MMO feel so probably not what you're looking for. But thought I'd throw it in here anyway because they are supposed to be great RPGs. I've played the first one which I thought was excellent, haven't played the second yet.

I have put in too much of my life into that game already. Time for something new. Preferably a game that was released past that era of gaming but not too advanced. Maybe around 2001-2007.

I dont have money to buy a new laptop. This post also goes to that guy who suggested dragon age 2, mass effect, and all those high tech games. Thanks for the suggestions though.

Torchlight was designed to run on netbooks, so it should easily run on your laptop. I think it runs around $10.

Also, you could try out Heroes of Might and Magic III. It's my favorite game of all time. Not an action game- it's turn-based strategy, but it's based in a fantasy world. It came out in the late 90s so it will run on your laptop as well. HOMM3 on Good old Games.com for $9.99

You can just go further back in time and do Morrowind.

The Baldurs Gate series is probably one of the greatest RPG series ever. I'd put it up there with Ultima as among my favorite ever. Graphics are no longer great, but then so much focus is put on graphics nowadays, that 80% of the RPG's that come out suck in terms of gameplay.

You may want to try something like Morrowind or its successor, Oblivion (which apparently your laptop can't handle), from the Elder Scrolls series. Graphics in Morrowind may be dated to you, though, but in all honesty, there are no recent RPG's that can compare to many of the ones that have been mentioned in terms of gameplay.

Some opinions on the ones that have been mentioned and a few others :

Diablo series - plays nothing like DAO, so you may not like it. Diablo was considered a joke as a real RPG, but I thought it was a fun diversion.

Torchlight - was fun at first, but good Lord was it just repetitious and "contained". It's nothing like DAO, and more like a Diablo clone.

Dungeon Siege Series - it's somewhat of a clone of Diablo. Except for Dungeon Siege III which is getting poor reviews.

Icewind Dale is along the same lines of Baldur's Gate and was probably just as good, but the graphics would probably be too dated for you (it came out around 2000).

The Witcher/Witcher 2 gets good reviews, but it's newer, so I don't know if your machine can handle it. I didn't really like the first Witcher, but can't tell you why. So what did I do? I bought Witcher 2 when it went on sale a couple of weeks ago, but I still haven't played it yet.

I've never played the Fallout series simply because the whole premise wasn't my kind of game... I want magic, orcs, and barbarians!
