Steve & Cat Haters, what do you say to this?

A great number of people on this board criticize Steve and Cat, calling them ball hogs and a lot of other names I don't care to repeat now. When criticising both, I often hear comparisons to more experienced players like Gary Payton and Kobe Bryant. Well, how do you guys like this: Kobe Bryant bricked 30 SHOTS, going 17-47 in their loss to the Celtics. This is probably an NBA record, both for the number of bricks and the number of shots taken. I shudder to think of the tantrums our dear whiners on this board would have thrown if either one of our much maligned guards were to to do something like that.

Wilt Chamberlain holds the record for shots taken at 63
As far as bricks I think Acme has that one.

Sorry, I meant shots taken by guards. I know Chamberlain couldn't have scored his record 100 points without having taken more than 50 shots.

Most would probably say what Barkley said on TNT tonight.

"Steve and Cuttino are very talented but they shoot too much."

"There is absolutely no reason for anyone to take 47 shots in a game"

"I don't want my point guard averaging 30 points a game."

    End of subject.

While it was not a very good eprformance, there was a VERY INCREDIBLY good chance that his teammates would've bricked those shots for him anyway. Especially the way they came out playing. Kobe did what he had to do, and you fail to mention he got a, not good, but not bad, 41 points. SEASON LOW 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Whe those are your season lows as a Guard, you know you're not just any SG.

Anyway, the Lakers were without their best and 3rd best player. Basically the Rockets last year.

For players like Payton, Kobe, etc.....performances like this are the exception to the rule ..........

Now codell 17of 47 would be the exception of the rule for anyone,,,But how could this happen in the Triangle Offense. The Triangle just dosnt seem to be as effective with Shaq out, Do you think they should change to an inside=out game.????:D

I think Kobe is easily one of the top players in the league. So far he is off to an incredible start - every game is at or near a tripple double. And the team's record?

I hope our dynamic duo takes note.

    ZZ,

To be honest with you, I only caught small portions of the Celtic/Laker game last night so Im not sure why that happened. Im sure I would have been crining if I would have watched Kobe miss 30 shots.

The original point I was trying to make though, is that its the exception to the rule when players like Kobe, Payton or McGrady have a game like there where they dont try and get their teamates involved. On a much smaller scale, for Mobley, and to a lesser extent, Francis, its quite often the rule rather than the exception.

Kenny said a couple of times that while Kobe took 47 shots, it seemed like it was only 44 or 43. :D

Maybe he shot 47 times because he was playing alongside such jabronis as Samaki Walker, Devean George, Stanislav Medvedenko, and Jannero Pargo.

I don't get the relevance of this thread...Is it ok if I shoot 5 people if I can point out that someone else shot 7?

There is no excuse for ever taking 47 shots....

It makes your teamates stand around and not contribute.

Not to mention, they lost, so I am sure that Phil has some choice words for Kobe after this horrible game.

Da is right, 47 shots?? Maybe if you were making 5 in a row and then missing 1. 47 shots by one person is pretty crazy, especially when your shotting ain't so hot that night and your teammates aren't so good. In a game like this, dunno how things were going in the game though, I would've expected Kobe to have taken between 21 to 28 shots.
