Owners are losing money under old CBA. It means the more games they play, the more they lose...... so close it then no loss any more. Players should understand that :grin:
There is some threads on the NBA Dish talking about the lockout, and this thread doesnt bring anything new, so why dont you post your thoughts there, and stop making this kind of threads.
http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/blog/ba...NBA-owners-legally-cook-the-bo?urn=nba-wp5834 Most of the teams aren't losing money they are still a turning a net profit on them yearly. How can a league that has increased worldwide viewership about two fold in the last 12-15 years be raking in less money when salaries have actually gone down since the last CBA? I side with the players on this one. If the owners want an assurance that they will turn a profit then they need to look at a profit sharing model like the NFL to keep the other teams viable. Instead of laying this on the players who have essentially done their jobs by generating excitement and interest in the sport worldwide.
I pay to watch the players play. I couldn't give less of a **** about the owners who are crying about losing money. A basketball team is not their lone source of income and they can easily compensate for it by whatever profits they are generating from other sources. At the end of the day if they don't like it they can sell. I'm just pissed that I'm probably not going to be able to watch preseason this year. I'm also equally pissed that the NFL was able to reach a compromise this quickly while the NBA shows no signs of progress at all.
It's amazing what you can find by checking other forums on this BBS. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=206468
I wonder if those sponsorship deals are tied to those players actually being on the court and visable to the masses .... Unless they are playing and in the spotlight , they are useless forms of advertisement. Those sponsors stand to lose loads right along with the players.
I'm on the side that will be better for the future of the NBA and that's the owners side. Players come and go and with the way things are now the NBA is heading towards a league with few really good teams and a lot of bad teams that take many years to get back to being competitive. Putting in hard cap and getting rid of guaranteed contracts will imo be better for the future of the NBA and most importantly the FANS of the NBA. Star players are going to teams with bigger markets and attractive cities and the other teams are forced to outbid other teams and overpay the leftover players in the hopes that this player will pan out make their team competitive. Some smaller market teams can't even afford to outbid teams for these players and go over the cap like teams like Dallas can. With guaranteed contracts there are many variables that can screw a team and their fans for many many years. Things like a serious injury that lowers the level of that player, players that only play on contract years, or just an incompetent gm trying to stay competitive can all force a team and it's fans to suffer through many losing seasons with little hope for the future. Getting rid guaranteed contracts and putting in a hard cap will help teams REBUILD FASTER and put smaller market teams on a level playing field with bigger market teams creating a more evened league.
