Obviously, all of these line-ups are excellent. So with that said...here's the lineup, that I think would be the best Rockets (current/past) Starting Lineup AND bench. :)

    Starting Lineup:
A smooth combination of post-game (Barkley / Olajuwon). Excellent one-on-one players (Martin / McGrady). Strong perimeter shooting (Martin / Sura). Excellent floor leaders (McGrady / Sura / Barkley). Great rebounding (Barkley / Olajuwon / Sura). As with any team, the combination of "team chemistry" is vital; and I believe with this team-- it can be one of the most intimidating teams ever assembled...:D

    PG Bob Sura 6-5
    SG Kevin Martin 6-7
    SF Tracy McGrady 6-8
    PF Charles Barkley 6-6
    C Hakeem Olajuwon 7-0

    Bench

    PG Kyle Lowry 6-0
    SG Vernon Maxwell 6-4
    SF Scottie Pippen 6-7
    PF Otis Thorpe 6-10
    C Ralph Sampson 7-4

Again, even though Dream is a center, I'd put him at the 4 as he'd destroy any modern 4 at that position. My dream Rockets team is pretty much inside-outside with good inside defense and 3pt shooters:

    PG Cassell
    SG K Martin
    SF Tmac
    PF Dream
    C Yao

6 Drexler (as either 2 or 3, it really wouldn't matter)

I honestly don't think any team in history could touch that.

I like this lineup, you have solid height, rebounding and athleticism on the front line. You have a point guard who is a great shooter and does not turn over the ball. you have a shooting guard who plays fantastic d and is not afraid to shoot the ball in clutch time. This bench you have a strong defender and junk yard dog. A point guard with superior mid range skills. The center is good too, he can play both ends of the floor.

    I like it.

    C-dream (super star)
PF-thorpe (rebounding and def specialist plus highest fg%)
SF-battier (def specialist, high % 3, high IQ)
    sg-drexler (super star)
pg-murphy (super star, playmaker, assist king)

many of you have too many offensive guys when's there's only 1 basketball to go around. 4 of the 5 are defensive guys. 3/5 can take over a game. who's gonna stop dream with the highest % PF (thorpe) in rockets history near, highest % shooting pg (murphy), battier outside for 3, and superstar drexler cutting or shooting? not to mention murphys assist skills.

in terms of defense, driving in on thorpe, dream, and battier is gonna be really hard. drexler is a very good defender. murphy would be the weakest link but that's not saying much.

    C- Hakeem/Moses
    PF- Barkley/Horry
    SF- Drexler/Mad Max
    SG- K-mart/Elie
    PG- Calvin/Sam

    Bench- Yao/Kenny Smith

I know Hakeem, Barkley, and Cylde didn't mesh well, but you don't get much better in those spots. You'd have Calvin running the offense and have Kevin spotting up and draws fouls.

Off the bench with Moses at C, dominating the post. Then you have Horry, Maxwell, Elie, and Cassell that are good defenders and great shoooters.

If you need additional size or a center with a nice shot you still have Yao.
If you need a smart point guard, a fast point guard, you still have Kenny.

Keep in mind all these players in their prime. We can dream can't we?

I wouldn't mind a prime Tracy, Francis or Mobley, but those guys just fell short of the list. I had to lean towards experience and proven winners.

Offense, defense, height, clutchness, play-making, finishing, dribble penetration, fast break, half-court...all checked.
