I'm pumped we got Terrence Toliver...I was hoping we'd sign him the minute he went undrafted. I watched him all last year and that dude is a player!
Goes back to what I mentioned about their team building philosophy. They don't pursue big names because they don't believe that's the best way to build the team. They want to model themselves after the Steelers....but the execution has been horrid. At some point you've got to make changes. They've tried to build a winning team just like David Gibbs tried to coach the secondary and Kareem Jackson tried to stay with his man. That's being mean, but their track record is fairly dismal. Things have been better lately, and I'm hopeful we'll see a good crew on the field in a month. I'm all about good faith effort. That's why I've stuck with the Rockets...and why I've excommunicated the Astros* I've been a season ticket holder every season. I'm not watching at home on my couch and demanding that they bow down to me. I just want them to live up to their end of the bargain - I'm a customer, they are the product. I haven't spent a dime on the Astros in the past three years. I went to the games, but I didn't buy any Texans merchandise last season. It's not much, but yes, I will let my wallet do the talking. All the crap we saw last year is why I have to honestly question the good faith effort. The insulting manner in which Kubiak was protected was a slap in the face of anyone that takes this team seriously....which was shades of the Carr extension. Hiring Wade Phillips because his dad pals with the owner as opposed to looking around for the best possible candidate falls right into that as well. They've demonstrated that they want to take steps forward, but there's no sense of urgency. They want to bunt their way to success. The difference between this front office vs Les/Morey is huge. Having said all that, let me say: I don't think the Texans suck. I think there are plenty of teams that are worse. My buddy is a Bills fan and that town is ready for collective suicide having to put up with Ralph Wilson. The Skins are such a mess because of Snyder and his people. We've got an entertaining offense, which is great. The Texans will own this town if they snag a couple playoff berths. I want to see them make that happen, but I think they're going to blow their window of opportunity if they keep playing so small in the offseason. *Please win me back, Mr. Crane
Vegas has the over/under win totals. Texans are at 8. I'm not a betting man, but I would take the over. http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/MGM-sportsbook-releases-2011-NFL-win-totals.html
LOL where did I say the fans? I was actually referring to the front office. No you're a "homer" getting into it with everyone who are obviously just frustrated and venting on this sports messageboard about the Texans. Just let them vent, they have good reason too. Hopefully the Texans will give them a reason to change their attitude. I actually generally agree with everything you said.
Ditto. I really do think 9 wins, maybe 10 are possible. We look to be in the best shape of anyone in the division, and that is the single most important thing. Should we capitalize, we have a shot of not just a wild card but hosting a playoff game.
Training camp fodder mostly. Some will make the practice squad. Zac Pauga (fullback) might make the real squad, if Leach does not sign.
If the Texans defense is league average next year and Schaub/Foster are healthy, 10 wins should be the floor.
The Texans got 3 out of the top 50 undrafted free agents according to draftcountdown.com. http://www.draftcountdown.com/Results/Undrafted.php
i'm frustrated too, i'm just reasonable about it. But they always vent. Maybe you havent been around much lately. The season has been over for 6 months...that's plenty of time to get over it. How much venting can be done? Eventually you have to let it go and try to understand it reasonably; not dwell on it and oversimplify it (e.g. they dont try to get FA rant) Time for a new season and like any season, there are things to worry about and things to look forward to. you should agree for the most part, and so should they. It's a fairly reasonable view on how things have unfolded
Accountabilty??? Why, there's NO such thing in Houston Professional Sports! In fact I've been told over in the GARM that if you demand things like accountability, learning from mistakes and improvement from these organizations then you are not a TRUE Rockets-Astros-Texans fan because you are simply far too demanding to be a true fan. After all, winning championships isn't what's it's all about here - it's learning to appreciate the mediocrity and futility of Houston sports teams that sets Houston fans apart from all others. Just sit back and keep swilling the koolaid and all will be well.
Ha! Well, judging by the track record it appears the win total has to go down by five games or more to merit firing. That measly 3-game drop wasn't enough, especially since by all other measures we're on the right track.
Rams signed Quintin Mikell, per Schefter tweet. First significant unrestricted FA signing I believe. Interesting that they let Ogatwe walk just to sign Mikell.
You'll get no argument from me on past FA signings. I don't think their problem has been willingness to sign FAs, its been ineptitude in signing them. The point is, Awesome-O and Weddle a) Have to want to be here and b) We have to be able to come to terms on their demands, under the restrictions of the new cap. Going to be hard to do IMO. I am with McLain. I would be shocked if the Texans get Namdi. IMO, I think we end up with Sensabaugh and a pretty good corner (Joseph/Taylor) or Weddle and an average corner (Rogers). Heck, I wouldn't be shocked if we end up with an average safety and an average corner. I think its silly to assume the Texans aren't going to try and tweak their cap to try for at least 1 home run. They have to get a fat one down the middle to do that though.
