Interesting area to play around in with google maps.

What is this place, Boyscouts camp or something? Amphitheater, desert like area, tents....

    <iframe width="425" height="350" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" src="http://maps.google.com/maps?q=32.777606,-117.214752&amp;num=1&amp;t=h&amp;sll=32.779328,-117.210595&amp;sspn=0.002838,0.003484&amp;hl=en&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;ll=32.777655,-117.215334&amp;spn=0.002232,0.00228&amp;z=18&amp;output=embed"></iframe><br /><small><a href="http://maps.google.com/maps?q=32.777606,-117.214752&amp;num=1&amp;t=h&amp;sll=32.779328,-117.210595&amp;sspn=0.002838,0.003484&amp;hl=en&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;ll=32.777655,-117.215334&amp;spn=0.002232,0.00228&amp;z=18&amp;source=embed" style="color:#0000FF;text-align:left">View Larger Map</a></small>

cool did you get a chance to flip them off ?? the obvious thing to do when you see the google car is flip them off, so a tad disappointed with myself. I am surprised mighty google wouldn't have better filters.

oh well like I was saying F them

csb ( as is 93-94% of this forum) flame all you want and then just remember you got flipped off too :p

So what was everyone's favorite search engine before Google? I used AltaVista.com

I think both Google and the subject are having a good laugh about this. Not sure what kind of problems I would have with a company that provides completely free services that people only use out of choice. Unless it's one of those middle-class Gen-X issues like digital piracy or Chinese blogging rights.

Altavista here as well. Their sound clip and video searches were pretty much all you needed right around the turn of the century. That and Yahoo Directory, which I used up until recently just for the popularity rankings. And of course Yahoo Finance was the research site for every undergrad business group project in the early 2000s.

I used Altavista, Yahoo, and I forgot the other one. I think it was A9 or something. It depends what I was searching for.

I was mainly a Yahoo guy but I would occasionally use Lycos or Dogpile.com

Maybe this thread one of you would tell me what you would do if you saw the google streetcar? geez.
    \

Did I embed fail? Its here:

    <iframe width="425" height="350" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" src="http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;ll=32.792722,-117.247381&amp;spn=0.004789,0.009645&amp;t=h&amp;z=17&amp;output=embed"></iframe><br /><small><a href="http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;ll=32.792722,-117.247381&amp;spn=0.004789,0.009645&amp;t=h&amp;z=17&amp;source=embed" style="color:#0000FF;text-align:left">View Larger Map</a></small>

if you zoom down to 'streetview' there is a photo of me flipping the bird at the google streetview guy. I am on the corner of dawes and pacific beach drive, 92109. I thought the link I posted would get you all the way there.sorry I really wanted you to see me flipping you off (joke) I was just being reactionary.

    I used webcrawler.

currently I am on a multi hidden sub directory version
of cuil that most of you are still guessing about. Actually I was just
showing my daughter the park near
our house on streetview (she's 3 and doesn't quite
understand the way a globe works, earth etc)and
I remembered that I had flipped off google when

I saw the asian (irony) google streetview driver/car.
I went to check, and was surprised an image of someone flipping off someone made it through the almighty google filters.
Plus I wanted to say hi to all my clutch fans brethren ;). Apparently its pretty common :
    http://www.streetviewfun.com/

so my gesture might have been boring but perhaps
thread worthy based on the sum quotient of what
is hot here on the backpages of this bbs 'web' ..and
you know forgive me it is the offseason /lockout season. sans ming :(

    ****

yeah I think its just launching points to go out
into the bay. I can go onsite and take pictures
if you want but over 30 year old guy outside
boy scout camp taking pictures might set
off the creeper alarms. whjeres iRonny when you need em?

While we are at it this :

    <iframe width="425" height="350" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" src="http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;ll=32.782196,-117.224507&amp;spn=0.00479,0.009645&amp;t=h&amp;z=17&amp;output=embed"></iframe><br /><small><a href="http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;ll=32.782196,-117.224507&amp;spn=0.00479,0.009645&amp;t=h&amp;z=17&amp;source=embed" style="color:#0000FF;text-align:left">View Larger Map</a></small>

is real weird to me..and funnily enough right by
fiesta island you are talking about.. It's gov't
property and I have been on a boat close to
it and it seems like they don't want anyone
in there. Its an odd structure. it has a real
creepy feel to it with keep out signs. It has
a conspiracy theory feel to it like a missile
silo might jut out or some kind of secret installation
right in the middle of san diego. it definitely
looks gov't. Gov't installations and these kinds
of things intrigue me I am sure you have seen
the govt building that looks like a swastika in sd:

    <iframe width="425" height="350" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" src="http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;ll=32.675813,-117.156336&amp;spn=0.004795,0.009645&amp;t=h&amp;z=17&amp;output=embed"></iframe><br /><small><a href="http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;ll=32.675813,-117.156336&amp;spn=0.004795,0.009645&amp;t=h&amp;z=17&amp;source=embed" style="color:#0000FF;text-align:left">View Larger Map</a></small>

Actually it was me driving, and seeing the google
guy ,and for lack of a better last minute thing
I decided I would flip the bird. I am not che trying
to make any big statement here.

But I will oblige you and tell you that google is
not all peaches and cream. Google streetview
is a stepping stone to googlehouse view.com
where you can see inside someones house.
It's funny my daughter (who's 3) was asking
if we could use the streetview to go inside
peoples houses. The thought never occurred to me. cute.

Anyway I am an adwords customer, and
not completely convinced all the clicks are
real clicks. They do have a dimensions tab
that tracks kicked out/bad clicks. So I suppose
they are trying but I still have to just trust
them right. Yeah 'trust us all the clicks are on the up and up'

maybe I am being too harsh expressing my
right to flip the bird as the google guy goes
by?.. what would you do? nothing? let the
guy pass ,and not even wave? You must
    be real fun at parties.

FWIW I would like to know more about
what google is paying artists and musicians
companies for the right to play their music
on youtube. Take this link of bohemian rhapsody for example:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=irp8CNj9qBI

it's been up for the last 6 years in the studio
version , has all kinds of ads everywhere and
it seems shakey in the credit dept. I mean is
queen getting anything for this? and oh yeah
    it has 52 MILLION hits.
are queen and co people getting paid for
this or is sergey brin and larry page aka the
'not evil twins' keeping it all? just want to
know... you know open information and all.

are my 5th ward boyz collecting for this:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFYonFNmymw

    ??

I just think as long as we are keeping
    score,and making sure ,these questions
need to be asked. It's a checks and
balances kinda thing and if we all just sit
and accept it as all hunky dorey, then
perhaps we all will be assimilated quite easily?

Maybe google is paying the 5th ward
boyz each time a song is played but
I don't think they go back, and retro
pay when x video has been watched
x times? Perhaps one of you copyright
experts that slept at holiday inn express last night can help ?

I know the copyright law is weak
but at least with napster it was
one zit faced kid in ohio, sharing an
ac/dc song with another zit faced kid in
    seattle. slightly more innocent, and
probably not as long term damaging as
a corporate outlet like google skimming
the artists till all day long.. google and
youtube are far from clean.. and are happy
conspirators. if I am wrong about royalty
credits to artist for ad revenue then fine
prove me wrong but in the meantime still
people need to ask the question. I am not talking
about credit once credit has been announced
and the video is taken down I am talking about is
queen going to get something for those 52 million hits?
or do they have to claim it first? What is the retro
active pay for these things? is google going
to open the books on this? you know open info and all.
    All the while google
fills their pockets until the party is over?
    Seems shakey and shady.

It's great to utilize a great free service.
It's not great if an artist is not getting
their due at the expense of a monster
    like the google/youtube guys.

Just checks and balances is all I am saying.

It's great to utilize the maps until they are
facilitating roving drone remote control cameras
in your back yard, and following you advertising
to you as you drive/walk down the street.

In the meantime I think it's okay to say f them
but I would have liked to thought of something
more snappy than the bird. oh well.

tl dnr: I flipped off the google streetview car ,and now you can see me on corner of pb drive and dawes 92109
