Two things going for him that'll make him into an enviable college prospect: 1) Youth - He's only in 8th grade--gives him a lot of time for maturation and physical growth. He might get even taller. 2) Guard skills - Usually if you're the tallest kid on the team, the coach is going to place you at center. Glad to see that he's playing more like a guard than a big man because if you want to make it in the next level as a premier college prospect with the dreams of making the league, it's a must that you learn how to play on the perimeter. It's your only chance. There are way too many stories of kids who are tall for their age that flame out because they didn't have the necessary basketball skills to make it once they stopped growing.
