http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=aw-wojnarowski_lawrence_frank_pistons_072011 The only thing that is bothering me right now about their team is a future development of Greg Monroe, he's a real deal, but how Frank will use him?
Good Hiring. I hope new coach slides Stuckey to the 2 guard and lets Knight develop at PG. I think Knight has a much higher ceiling at PG then Stuckey does. ATM besides Monroe, they have some promise with Jerebko and Daye but nothing dramatic. Knight has the best chance to form a duo with Monroe as the teams corner pieces. They really need to get rid of Hamilton, Gordon, Vilanueva and Maxiell. Hamilton and Gordon should return good value, maybe Boozer. Though Charlie boy and Maxiell will be hard to dump.
Am I the only person who thinks this is a bad hire? Considering all the other available options out there, Frank really isn't very impressive.
Exactly what other available options would be better? Don't include Adelman, who may not even want the job. I like the hire.
If he was such a good coach then why did his team have the worse losing streak in the history of the NBA? Average coach going to suckish team. I can definitely see how this will turn out.
The pistons need somewhere where to go either defensive or offensive. They really don't have and itdentily now and have been living off the past success of thief players. At least with this hire they have a direction they're familiar with
I was going to say Adelman. But you also have JVG and Avery Johnson. I actually do like what Woodson did in Atlanta, and would have also liked Liambeer, considering the development of Monroe. The advantages of hiring FL just doesn't jump out at me.
Adelman and JVG scoff at coaching the current Pistons. Woodson and Liambeer are probably not as good coaches as Frank is. Personally, I think they did the best they could. Frank deserved another shot at head coaching.
Because he had the worst roster in the history of the NBA? (You know, the coaches can't lace them up unfortunately...)
Frank as same as Woodson never had an opportunity to work and develop that kind of bigman cause they never had the same player on their rosters. I don't actually know how Lawrence is going to work. I know how he should but... anyway 1. They should find his position on the floor. Is he a PF or a center? 2. They should transform their offensive model into a feeding for Monroe system 3. They should use him in the best way for a new position: pick'n'roll game, passing from high post, midrange game and parts of a low-post one if he's a PF or try to teach him how to defend his position on a high rate and steadily develop his offensive game from day in and day out. It's a longer but better process, reward will be much higher there 20 good PF's < 1 real center
Sarcasm? The guy took over the defending Eastern Conference Champs, coached them for 6.5 years and they got worse every year he was there ending with one of the most disgusting/embarrassing seasons in the history of the NBA. No idea how he lasted so long. What makes him a "stud coach"? How is him over highly regarded assistants like Elston Turner and Brian Shaw a good hire? Are peoples memories really shot dead? Its a joke. I am seriously shaking my head at this.
