Anyone remember that jogger dude Jim Fixx, who ran a lot, got healthy, wrote a book, and got famous for it?

He died of a heart attack at age 52.

    What's up with that?

    From Wiki:

"...Fixx was genetically predisposed (his father died of a heart attack aged 43 and Fixx himself had a congenitally enlarged heart) and several lifestyle issues (Fixx was a heavy smoker prior to beginning running aged 36, he had a stressful occupation, he had undergone a second divorce, and his weight before he took up running had ballooned to 220lbs)."

I think it was mostly genetic predisposition and being a heavy smoker for who knows how many years. The other factors were contributing and secondary.

As long as you are fabulous it doesn't matter if you are fat or skinny.

About a year ago I was 222 lbs and wore a size 38 pants. I wasn't fat, I was just stocky. I'm 6' 3 so I wasn't huge. After I graduated I decided I was going to have to find a way to stay active since I would no longer be able to rely on basketball. I started running and eating healthy and feel a lot better than I ever have. I drink only water ALL the time. Drinking ice cold water actually boost your metabolism to very high levels so I drink a glass right before and right after every meal and quite often in between. I now weigh 179 and am down to a size 28 pants.

How have you done this? Seems like every single food in the world is loaded with sodium these days.

I've gone from about 240 to 200 in the last year or so, but I'd still like to get my blood pressure down some more. I know cutting salt is a good way to do it, but it seems like there's salt in EVERYTHING - even lowfat low-cal foods.

Gotta cook for yourself (or have the significant other do it) or pay money for those healthy meal delivery services.

Salt is fine, as long as it is consumed it moderation. Therefore, try to limit the amount of processed foods you consume, as most of them have high sodium content. In case you are looking for a healthy alternative to table salt, I highly recommend Mrs. Dash Original Blend, as it is sodium and salt free. There are other flavors, too.

I have a small waist and butt. I've just always had a gut until recently.
