Even our bobbleheads suck. Just caught a glimpse of the Johnny Damon bobbleheads TB is giving out and it looked exactly like him and was of better quality. Comparatively, our's look like something out of a bubblegum machine or that a bunch of kids made using paint by numbers. I don't even care about bobbleheads. I give them away when I get them. The difference in quality was just noticeable, as is the case with our baseball team.
I think they can. They have been far worse than ever before. Nobody is turning this team into WS contenders, but you have to do better than this. I say fire them all. Start fresh. I wouldn't blame them though if they kept him around for 2012 and just let his contract expiring. No need to waste more millions.

I thought Beltran's deal with going to the Mets for 7 years was the 7-year no-trade clause? Remember his whiny comment about the Astros' not wanting to commit to him because they only offered 5 or 6 years of no-trade?
that's a trip. this is another topic but si ran a story about a month ago how the mets owner was a personal friend of madoff and he and family members lost $550 Million total. also the gov't might go after profits they made in the years before the ponzi scheme fell honestly, i don't know how the owner isn't in the same situation as the dodgers owner.
I read that also. It's part of what made this report so surprising to me. That and the fact that the Mets might be willing to eat $9M (or whatever the pro-rated amount is) just for the sake of landing a better prospect or two. Very interesting. But regardless, Beltran would have to waive his no-trade clause and I can picture him being wary of Pittsburgh's chances of remaining a legit playoff contender. My guess is he'll end up in Boston or one of the usual places.

Pirate attendance is up about 17% this season. Beltran is owed around $7MM (or close to that) the remainder of the year. I would rather the Pirates take on all of the salary than have the team give up more/better prospects. Especially for a guy like Pena or Beltran, who is a rental and won't be resigned. Yeah, every report out of Pittsburgh seems to indicate Neal Huntington is proceeding with caution. Sure, like the rest of us he's ecstatic to see the Pirates finally on pace to break this dreaded historic streak, but at the end of the day this is a team that simply doesn't have the punch or experience the Cards or Brewers have (can't forget about the Reds too). It's going to take more than just one big bat to make things come together here. No need to risk your future to be greedy in the present. Luckily, with Pedro Alvarez seemingly inching closer to a call-up we might have at least one potential big bat already in the system. In a perfect world he solves our problem at third base. That leaves first base, RF, LF and C as our remaining holes. Alex Presley looks pretty good at RF, McKenry is gritty and likable at C (although not the answer long-term, IMO) and Garrett Jones is underachieving but the potential for power hitting is always there (plus you could always platoon him elsewhere). So yeah, first base seems to be the logical move. I like Pena. Good defensive first basemen with power hitting. Doesn't make a lot of money. Plus, the Cubs appear to be ready to unload. Definitely a name worth keeping in mind.
