It is known the Heat would like either Hill/Prince/Battier, but only if they could get them for the min. The longer the lockout goes, the better chance they will sign for the Min.
The MLE will be taking up with a Centre most likely Dalembert right now. They are the best chance to land Dalembert, and would be surprised if he signed somewhere else.

Their perimeter defense would be ridiculously good, plus it alleviates some of the defensive responsibilities for Lebron.

However, the Heat still need to improve their rebounding, so another decent big man is a must.

Battier would be a net asset to the Heat for sure, but the idea that he would push the team over the threshold is pretty radical. He's over the hill and, like all of us, he's getting older. He's not the defensive force he was and he's hardly an offensive force anymore at all. What he's got left is smarts, but in the limited minutes he'd see and with the deficiencies he's developing with age, he wouldn't be a meaningful difference maker for them.

battier will disappoint like miller disappointed if he joined the heat. heat need a big man that can rebound and be a force in the paint. what's funny is that tyson chandler would be perfect for the heat.

The Heat do need bigs but they also need LeBron not to play 40 mpg in the playoffs. Battier would help them a lot. Playing there would probably add a year or two to his career. Plus Wade always has injury issues.

Of course they want him. It would suck, though. I really like him, and I really want the Heat to lose. Would make things difficult.

Battier "will carry the dead, wounded, and cowardly heat players next season.

Older players tend to know there roles better and play more consistently then younger players. The Heat need players who can step in, and play right away, as all contenders need.

IMO, Shane doesn't have as much left in the tank as most here think. He should be low on the totem pole of priorities for the Heat. They need a legit starting PG & C and have Chalmers, Miller, Haslem and Joel Anthony to round out their top 9. If Shane signs, he would see piddly minutes behind Wade and LeBron and won't do much good when he's on the court. You can't turn back the clock.

The Heat don't need help on perimeter defense. That was the least of their problems against good teams in the playoffs. If you are against Miami, you should hope they waste a roster spot on Shane.

There PG postion, will most likely not change as they drafted one of the best PG's in the draft, but it the lockout drags on, they will grab a vetern PG who can step in right away.

    Good points...

They will most most likely get Dalembert with the MLE as well, plus Chris Bosh will be playing more centre next year, as the Heat are going to be pushing up the tempo a lot more.

From what I've been reading, is that would like a extra defender to allow Lebron and Wade to get more rest, and to help shut down random scrubs going off on them, when they head to the bench.

"Most likely" get Dalembert? We'll see about that. First of all (speaking of "likely"), he will get a much bigger offer from another team in what will be his last big contract. I'm not so sure he will leave a pile of money on the table to play for the Heat. Secondly, who says there will be a significant MLE in the next CBA? There may not even be an MLE at all.

Who says Chris Bosh will be playing more C next season? If that is the case, the Heat's interior defense will be a joke and they will get pounded on the boards. If Bosh were a more physical player, this would have happened more last season.

The problem with using Shane to give Wade and LeBron rest is he's not very good anymore. If his spot in the rotation is above Mike Miller's, the Heat are in deep trouble. Shane is past being an effective rotation player. On a spot basis, he might be helpful.

Lastly, if you think the guy they drafted at 31 is "one of the best PGs in the draft", why did he last so long? It's very unlikely he has a big impact on them next season even if the CBA is settled on time.

I feel the Heat chances to improve their roster aren't promising. They are in a major bind: A team with little depth who's salary structure is maxed out. If anybody can pull something off, it's Riles.
