I think women's sports have a lot to offer, but I don't think they will ever be taken as serious as the counterpart: men's sports.
The damn lockouts made me watch women's soccer yesterday. NFL and NBA, betta get yo' **** together quick before I watch women's curling.
Is there a difference between this question and "Why do you watch college basketball over NBA basketball"? One's far inferior than other in skills but you still watch it for the entertainment of it?
Same here. There doesn't seem to be a huge dropoff in gameplay between men and women in Tennis. And it might be my inexperience with soccer, but the Women's World Cup was as entertaining to me as the Men's World Cup. There doesn't seem to be the huge dropoff there that exists with basketball.
I watch women's tennis because its more entertaining since there are more rallies. Less points won on serve. I watch woman's soccer because their is there is more sportsmanship and less predictability than the the men's game. Woman's beach volleyball because of all this and they are totally hot.
There are huge dropoffs between men's and women's competition in any sport. That's just because men have greater physical attributes. It won't be as evident unless you know the sport well. That's why everyone on this board says the dropoff in women's basketball is more obvious compared to other sports. It's a basketball forum, we all know basketball well. If you knew the other sports as well, you'd see women's sports are just as inferior. However, the competition is comparable when it's men vs. men or women vs. women, that's why it can be as equally entertaining.
Why do people watch highschool or college football since their athleticism and skill level is obviously inferior.
The WNBA is awful, but you do have a sense of pride when any team from your alma mater wins a championship. If they are a women's team, you'll still take it.
I am very unlikely to watch a game involving either gender unless I have a rooting interest. (If one of the teams involved is wearing Houston or USA on their uniforms, presto instant rooting interest). I seldom watch a game just hoping to see a good game, sometimes a football game or NBA playoff game is compelling enough I will "generate" a rooting interest by picking a team with players I like (or don't dislike)...or by placing a few dollars on the game. There aren't any women's team sports I will watch without a (USA or Houston) rooting interest. I don't watch women's (or men's) tennis or golf much anymore but it isn't terrible. (the last women's sporting event I watched before the World Cup was a University of Houston women's softball game on cable.) I had a great time watching the US women's world cup team. I wished I could have the 2 hours of my life spent watching Barcelona vs Man United back.....yeah the latter is the two greatest teams battling for all the marbles with play at the highest level. I also couldn't give a bucket of warm pee as to who won...so thus no fun. As far as watching women's sports for their erotic value, maybe if I was in a strict religious community where images of unattractive to modestly attractive women wearing (GASP) shorts were restricted I would be interested. I mean I enjoyed it when Brandi Chastain stripped to her sports bra, but I didn't feel compelled to break out super slo-mo, a bottle of Jergins and a box of Kleenex
