I hate to start this thread but I must. Is it me or do people like W., Cheney, Rumsfled and especially Rush Lembaugh hide behind the American flag?

    Example:

Rush Limbaugh: "blah, blah, blah, blah, Freedom, blah, blah blah, patriotism, blah, blah, blah, freedom and patriotism USA #1, blah, blah, blah, you are an unpatriotic communist if you don't support the boojwah and have family weekend picnics."

Is it wrong? Am I right? Does anybody win?

    Same thing with other side.

For example, I'm some sort of redneck, white, racist who hates the middle class and poor.

Anyone arrogant enough to think that the vitriol only comes from one side are no better than the same people you mentioned above.

Why do you have a problem with reciting American principles/ideals? As opposed to what? Calling your political opponents sexually suggestive names (teabaggers, **** brothers)?

“When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying the cross.” - Sinclair Lewis

Its a slippery slope once you start calling any sort of criticism unamerican or unpatriotic.

Although is is a good excuse for not thinking to usually think that all sides of an issue or all political parties and movements are equally wrong, lying,non-racost and in favor of the middle class.

I never hear criticism being called unamerican or unpatriotic, what I hear is Republicans calling Democratic legislation/ideas unamerican and unpatriotic. Which is reasonable since bigger government implies less individual freedom (usually) and individual freedom is an american principle.

Despite the OP - I'm not sure W, Cheney, Rumsfeld are really noted for calling out opposition as unpatriotic. They are politicians and I would think too concerned with winning the undecided vote to pull that stuff.

Rush, Hannity. Yeah sure. But they are well established as idealogues. Half the country hates them more than excrement. So I think we are pretty safe.

Tea party members referred to themselves as teabaggers.

I have a problem when people use American ideals and principles to hide abhorrent behavior or attack other people. Neither of those things are truly American principles and ideals.

W- you're either with us or you're with the terrorists

Rumsfeld- I think he (Obama) has made a practice of trying to apologize for America. I personally am proud of America.

    Cheney- So?

Jesus Christ, that was an excruciating read. You gotta explain to me how this post is any less annoying or vapid than anything those guys would have said. Could you at least try to mention anyone who's actually been in government for the last two years?

    All of you are morons.

I know you all try to feign intelligence by trying to justify your party's position, but ultimately you're a sellout to a political system that has ultimately become a Coke vs. Pepsi debate. Snap out of it and think for yourself, rather than blindly following and excusing a broken system.

Time to rise up. Sadly, the most passionate about politics are always the stupidest. On both sides. Deep down, you know it.

but what about the subject of hiding behind the patriotism umbrella?

I could act all high and mighty too, but that would be feigning intelligence

I'm not acting high and mighty. I'm just giving you all a reality check. It is truly stupid.

I'm the only one expressing an alternate opinion. You're the feeble mind clicking a box agreeing with a side.

You're a moron. You're just not aware of it. And being a moron, I see that continuing.
