If I know they BROKE IN and they are not armed, I would shoot them somewhere in the lower body at the very least.

If they were armed, I would shoot to kill.

If they saw that I was armed and still weren't trying to escape, I would shoot to kill even if they weren't armed.

Why would I risk finding out if they are armed or not.

More than likely if when I find out they are actually armed, i would've lost my chance to shoot them.

Fire wide, see if they scramble to leave or turn and shoot... If they turn to shoot, they're going cold soon after.

Regardless of what I say now, when it comes down to it, I'm not sure I could take another man's life. If it was me, my family or him, I hope I would be able to act.

On the other hand, shooting someone in a non vital spot, sure. Of course, I don't have a gun and probably never will. Unless I move to America.

I have a hard time believing anyone here would run through these conditions (If unarmed, then, etc.) in their minds in such a high pressure situation.

I disagree with all these 'warn the intruder in some way and hope it dissuades him' approaches. You don't take chances if one of the consequences could be your life or a family member's. You fire and keep firing until he's obviously down.

I'd shut down all the power, stalk them in the dark, then, slit their throats like a hunter.

This is a great point. I doubt most people would know for sure what they would do until they are in that situation.

I have no clue what I'd do, until it really happens, but I know what I'm prepared for. I keep a shotgun loaded (none in the chamber) first with two shells with buckshot, then two shells with birdshot (bird shot shoots first). My theory is that my successive tries to stop an intruder would be yell, then chamber shell, then immobilize with the birdshot, then kill with the buckshot.

If you can't shoot him to kill him, at least get him in the balls/penis/groin area so he can't procreate anymore.

...but most likely I wouldn't drop the body in the ocean.

If you're buying one for home protection, get one with a longer magazine, and load a few more buckshot. Mine gets a little bit of use shooting birds and a clay pigeons.

If I had a gun -- I don't and likely never will -- I would. Armed or not. But not to kill. I would aim for the leg.

Even though I don't have a gun, because I hate them and they make me nervous, if anybody entered my home unexpected I would get a butcher knife asap and charge them, armed or not. I would try to stab them in a non-fatal place, but if that failed to subdue them I guess I would probably wind up trying to kill them.

Of course, if they had a gun and I didn't, I'd be very much out of luck. You'd think this would make me buy a gun, despite my reservations, but I am in no way worried about someone entering my home when I am home. I've been robbed a couple times when I was out, but I'm not a rich fellow and though my home is rather nice I seriously doubt anyone would decide to invade it when there are people home. I also have a very sweet Rhodesian Ridgeback that becomes very mean and scary when he thinks anyone is too close to our house. He is probably the best (preventative) defense I could have.

Couldn't vote in the poll because none of the options represented my feelings on this.

All y'all acting like you are going to be calm, the majority of people will be acting out instinctively. You aren't going to be thinking about if you should be shooting them in the arm, leg, stomach, or penis.
