I would have taken Paul Pierce had he fallen to the 8th round. He's a solid all-around player with a finals MVP.

If you are targeting two equal players, a swap like this would be useful, since you most likely would get one of them two picks later, and you would have a slightly better chance in the 8th.

OK, I'm going to solve my SF problem.

I'm taking a former MVP, Finals MVP, and scoring champ. He was the original aerial instructor and laid the foundation for Dr. J. MJ, Nique, Clyde and all the rest. He's a Top 20 Talent and the only reason he is not routinely recognized as such and has lasted this long is because the then NBA Commissioner screwed him over and kept him out of the NBA for years until he sued and won the right to play. I pick Connie Hawkins.

He played with the Globetrotters for 4 years and when the ABA formed he was the first scoring champ, MVP, and Finals MVP. Even as a 27 year old NBA rookie coming off knee surgery he averaged 26.8/13.5. The next year he was 1st Team All-NBA and he made 4 straight All-Star games.

Along with Sabonis, he gives me the two greatest players in NBA history who were denied their prime because of politics (Sabonis because he lived in the USSR, Hawkins because of unfounded rumors and probably a bit of racism). If I get them in their prime, they'll be playing with a chip on their shoulder and wreck shop. If I only get them for their NBA years, that's still pretty damn good.

With this, I move Pettit to the bench with Tiny and start:

I'm going to add some more toughness to this team. Someone who when either Mchale or Shaq needs a break, I can put in to become a defensive stopper. Someone who was a NBA champion and 4X NBA defensive player of the year. Some one who once pulled down 15.4 boards a game and 3.5 blocks a year.

I didn't realize that. Seemed odd to me that Wilt lasted that long.

Maybe Shaq, but probably Moses. The reason for Moses is that on a team of all-stars, he doesn't mind (in fact he loves) doing the dirty work. I don't think he'd complain too much about his touches because he'd go out and get his touches via ORBs.

In this league, Shaq will get his points, but he will be challenged by premier centers and excellent double teams... and I'm pretty sure his rebounding would go down given the rebounding talent at the forward and guard positions... he just won't want it enough to go after it like Moses would. I also don't see him getting his usual calls against great players like Wilt, Kareem, Russell, Dream, Moses, Walton, etc. when he goes to the drop shoulder bull rush.

That said, if Bird was available, I would have taken him and picked somebody else later.

 

I'm going with the last former NBA MVP on the board, Dave Cowens. This guy has 3 defensive team selections and one 1st team. He can bring me some toughness and rebounding; he runs the floor well and can be effective on the perimeter as well as inside. He gave Wilt some problems back in the day; he can guard anyone despite his size.

I'm really surprised he fell this far.
