Thought this would be appropriate with the news of the big fella, Yao Ming retiring. A look back on his first year as a Houston Rocket. For those who haven't seen it or would like to see it again. The documentary The Year of the Yao.

Rudy, Franchise, Cuttino, Mo, Moochie, Rookie Yao....

    Seems like yesterday :(

Must watch if you are a Rocket fan, if you have watched it already, watch it again.

    Gotta love Steve and Cuttino...

Man, times like this is when I wish youtube was more available back then or NBA start releasing back catalog of games. Games like the Lakers one where Yao went perfect, the breakout game against Dallas and especially Yao-Shaq I.

I loved that movie. Great to see Rudy T, and when we drafted Yao, I was working in a position that was taking me to Asia and China quite a bit.

The guy didn't even know English, yet adapted remarkably well. I think it is an amazing story and really personally got me fired up about the Rockets again after drifting away a bit.

I remember that first game of Yao vs Shaq, I watched from my hotel room in Singapore. They actually played it twice that day, and I watched the first bit again where Yao blocked Shaq's first 4 shots.

Thanks for posting this. Brings back some great memories. Also really interesting to learn more about Colin Pine's relationship to Yao. Listening to him talk about trying to understand the US culture from a Chinese perspective was good to hear.

First time I've seen this. The film was almost more about Yao's translator than Yao. That's lame.
