[ESPN Insider] Hollinger: Is Yao a HOF? Anybody with an insider account that could please post this? http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/columns/story?columnist=hollinger_john&page=reflectingonyao-110708 THANKS
BASKETBALL Hall of Fame. Not NBA Hall of Fame. Yao is a certified BASKETBALL icon. Yao = BASKETBALL Hall of Famer.
I initially felt no,but his impact on the game is impressive. If Chris Mullin can be an HOF,then Yao Ming certainly should qualify as one.
"No"? Seriously? Name another player that has turned over 100million ppl who have never touched a basketball into bball fans.
It's not an NBA hall of fame it's Basketball Hall of Fame. I'm sure other ppl have made that point in this thread. Everything you say about the NBA and basketball and Yao's contribution is true. But throwing all that America-centric rhetoric out the window, THINK what Yao has done for CHINA and its basketball culture. He's more revolutionary than Tiger Woods in golf. I mean, hundred million more Chinese actually play the game than did before Yao. That plus his International record, his NBA record make him a shoe-in.
Yao is definitely a HOFer. He might even be first ballot. I hope people realize it's the basketball HOF not NBA HOF. There is no such thing as the NBA HOF. There are many members of the HOF who has never played in the NBA. Yao gets in for his work in the: NBA, Olympics, World Championships, Asian championships and the Sharks. Yao won a title with the Sharks 4 time Asian Championship gold medal, MVP twice 1st team 2002 World Championship, led the tournament in blocks. He faced the best of the NBA who played for their countries Led the 2004 Olympics in rebounds Led the 2006 World Championships in scoring etc....
Just look at the list http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_players_in_the_Naismith_Memorial_Basketball_Hall_of_Fame 100% easy bet.
Absolutely. Its the Hall of Fame. You can't name 10 players in the history of the league that were more famous than Yao.
For his on-court contributions, I would say no. for his contributions off court like being the NBA ambassador in China, I would say yes definitely. LIke other posters said its the BASKETBALL HOF, not the NBA HOF. Perfect example is Dick Vitale: (someone else already mentioned him) Dick Vitale record coaching in the NBA 1978-1979: Detroit Pistons: 30-52 But he made big contributions to the basketball in general.
Yes. Strong stats Great teammate Helped his team to win games despite limited playoff success Model citizen Ambassador
As a player no a contributor Yes the door that were opened by Yao to the east and there game has been unmatched by no one else to play the game.
Jeff Van Gundy says yes... Therefore the answer is yes! http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/bk/bkn/7646837.html
