Poor Yao. This probably hurt a resilient guy like him quite a bit. I think this is a good decision for his sake, though. Good luck in the future, big fella!

honestly, it's completely expected. read the list of players who played at 7'5" or taller...check out the minutes they played and when they retired. none logged the kind of minutes yao did...and all were retired in their early 30's. they all had recurring injuries and limited minutes by the time they were 30.

Such a sad day, just doesn't feel the same without Yao involved, on or off the court. Will take some time getting use to life as a Rocket fan w/o Yao MING.

Poor Yao. Was such a nice guy and did what was right for the team and himself. Wish he had the career he wanted without injuries.

Yao will be irreplaceable. He was THE team. We were lucky to have drafted him.

    Thank you for everything Yao.

I know. Everyone knew he was just way too tall, myself included.
Just wished somehow there was a way. :(

A momentous event for the Rockets, there go all the Chinese billboards, sneaker endorsements for Rocket players, the loss of all those Chinese fans. Maybe Yao leaves Houston and America.

Can't wait for the news conference.

Dude was beasting before his first leg injury during Christmas time. He was never the same player again.

At least, he's filthy rich so can't be too sad for him.

Yao had to tell the league he was retired. Under the lockout rules, the Rockets couldn't even take his phone call.

I'll miss you Yao. The Toyota Center all in sync doing the Yao Ming chant is one of my favorite sports memories. Love you big guy.

Well I thought it was time for the Rockets to move on he just made the decision easier. Hate that it happened to a guy like Yao though. He kept trying he's just too tall.

He's had the most successful NBA career for guys 7'5 and over.

What I liked most about Yao, was the person he was off the court. The league is full of knuckleheads who embarrass themselves on a regular basis, but Yao was pure class both on the court and off the court.
